Crepe paper streamer

Directions:
1. With a 1″ fold, accordion fold the entire piece of big card stock width-wise. Connect together like a fan and glue the inside portions together.

7. Insert wire into the holes at the back of the crown. Adjust wire to desired size, and twist wire to secure.

With four little princesses in our house, we are always making some sort of crown. This was a quick one to whip up when a tea party crown was needed! Here’s another floral crown we’ve made in the past.

flower crowns and pins

July 28, 2014

DSC_5401DSC_5267 copyDSC_5273 copyDSC_5279 copyDSC_5417 copyI’ve been helping the BFF prep for her niece’s first birthday party. In the Korean culture, it’s called a dol and it’s a really big deal; it’s like a sweet sixteen, quinceañera (for latin cultures the big birthday celebration happens at 15), or a Philippines debut (Filipino culture have a debut on their 18th birthday).

We made flower crowns for each little girl in attendance and flower pins for the little boys. I used the DIY crepe paper floral crown that I shared a long time ago, and I got to play florist again and made the flower arrangements for the party. It was so busy I barely snapped any pictures of the party, or the sweet celebrant and the felt flower crown I made for her. Though you can see a sneak of the party here and the happy celebrant with one of her aunties (and she’s wearing the floral crown I made). It was fun helping out since it wasn’t my party and the stress of planning wasn’t on me. Plus, Linda and I had fun chit-chatting as we were crafting away, and when the two of us are together we just blab and blab and blab… our husbands have to cover their ears when they’re around the two of us together because our volume skyrockets when we’re together.

diy: crepe paper heart crown

Supplies:
Crepe paper streamers in various colors
Scissors
Floral wire (a roll of 30 gauge floral wire from the craft store did the job for this project)
Wire cutter
White floral tape
heart crownDirections:
1. Fold 2.5″ of crepe paper over and cut out your heart. Be sure to not cut out the bottom of the heart as you will want two hearts to be attached together at the bottom (see photo). Cut out about 12 – 15 hearts in various colors.

heart crown2. Using the wire cutter, cut 6″ strands of wire that amount to same as the number of crepe paper hearts you previously cut out. Open up your paper heart, center the wire on it, then fold in half, pinching the heart closed. Continue to wrap the entire wire completely with floral tape. Repeat for each of your paper hearts.

Overlap the end of the heart stems over each other by about 1.5″ – 2″, and intertwine each stem tightly around the next until you’ve connected them all together to create your heart crown. I used about 12 – 15 heart stems per crown for my little girls, but when you near the end, keep the sweet little head nearby to double check measurements to make sure it will fit.

heart crownheart crownheart crown I made 4 of these heart crowns for our Valentine Day festivities. I’m not even sure what we’ll be doing, but they’re all about these types of celebrations, so I try to make it as fun for them as possible. Plus, not only is it Valentine’s Day, but it’s also my mom and dad’s wedding anniversary, so we do have a lot to celebrate on February 14th!

Last week the girls were outside playing and gathering flowers. They gathered lots of teeny daisies and had me make them crowns. They were real flowers, so they wilted and died rather quickly. I asked them again this week, if they wanted to get more flowers so I could make them another, True said, “No mommy. I want one that doesn’t die.” And that statement led to this project…

The result was lots of happy princesses running around our house!

some custom crowns

September 20, 2010

I haven’t done custom crowns in awhile, but I always love the challenge when someone wants me to do so. A lovely lady requested that I make two coordinating crowns for her two sons, and they were going to go with a birthday party based on a particular book. Can anyone tell me what book inspired these crowns?

We had a pretty funny Sunday. You see, we go to church about an hour away from where we live, and when we got to church, Ben realized that he forgot his shoes! Ha! To top it all off, he was the service leader for our Sunday gathering. Despite this hilarious mistake, praise God that the situation didn’t deter him and he led Sunday service just fine (thanks be to God) bare feet and all (here’s proof)! After which, we skidaddled to the nearest Rite Aid to pick him up some cheap flips flops. Then, we went our merry way to do some vintage clothing hunting. I came out with some goodies for myself for just a buck, but it was a bust to find anything for Ben! I guess it just wasn’t his luck on Sunday.
How was your weekend? Have any funny stories that might trump the story of Ben forgetting his shoes for church?!!

i heart making crowns

June 26, 2009

I love making custom crown (and regular ones), but custom ones always present a challenge and I love a challenge… usually. Well, one of my closest friends requested a I LOVE NY crown for her little girl as a hint to her dad of what he was getting for Father’s Day, which were plane tickets to NY. I knew this was going to be a fun crown for a stylin’ little girl.

She wanted I LOVE NY, skyscrapers, and if I could manage to get the Brooklyn Bridge in. Let’s just say I got two of the three, but I was having trouble putting the bridge in without the crown looking too busy. But I was very happy with result and I think she was too!

I must say that yesterday was a very productive day as all my bathrooms are now clean! I even cleaned the showers and tubs, which is quite an accomplishment as I never ever clean those. I hate cleaning that part of the bathroom. Anyone have any tips on how to remove really bad hard water stains? Today’s task will be to fold and put away laundry and I would really like to get some sewing in. Now that I think about it, I didn’t even feel nauseous at all yesterday. Maybe, things are looking better. Ah! To be human again is such a good feeling. Well, thank you very much to my two little, not so little anymore, seesters for taking care of my very little girls. You two are the best!!!
The weather is expected to heat up this weekend… yikes! I know I am a wuss when it comes to hot weather. I prefer the cold.
Happy Friday! Keep cool this weekend with watermelon, cherries, and a whole bunch of lemonade. At least that’s my plan!
