Twice in one weekend…

May 19, 2008

The wedding was beautiful and I am so happy to see my two friends finally married…

Besides the blessed union, the wedding marked something special for me because it was the first time I sewed something for myself. I went shopping, but couldn’t find what I wanted in my head, so I decided to try and make it. I was a bit nervous because this just didn’t involve elastic like making a little girl’s skirt, which is very simple to do, but it involved actually measuring, using a zipper, and gathering, and measuring some more. I had fun doing it and I was satisfied with the result and my Ben really like it… so I guess that is all that matters!!!

Another, wonderful note was that I found a cheap, pair of shoes to match the green I used perfectly…

Well, I knew I could use this with other colors, so I made a yellow belt to wear with it too…
And I wore the yellow to church on Sunday. Of course, I had the perfect shoes to match, which was the last gift Ben ordered for me as another Mommy’s Day present from my favorite store in the whole wide world (I think this will be my last pair of shoes for awhile, but there are some wedges that I really want, but know I won’t get).

I really had fun making myself something and it kinda saved us some money (but fabric ain’t that cheap!) I can’t wait for the next occasion to make something for me (Wait! Who said it had to be for special occasions only?!!). I already have a list of ideas of things I want to make… if only there were more hours in a day?!!

So thanks to a somewhat versatile, homemade outfit… it was worn twice in one weekend!

That dress is beautiful. I love the sash. Did you use a pattern or make it up yourself? I love the matching shoes. Great job!

Thanks everyone! I was so excited to be able to make something to wear! I didn’t use a pattern as I don’t have the ability to understand patterns… that is really an art! Making it in my head is much easier for me to do… i really admire those who follow patterns! i wish i knew how or rather had the patience. I was so excited to have a splash of color… and now i can make more colors to wear with it! maybe one for everyday of the week!!!

  • oh my gosh, it’s beautiful!!! I love the green and I love the yellow. And your shoes! Oh my goodness. Lovely, lovely, lovey. good job! 🙂

Wow. You are so creative and talented! And those little green shoes look great on you! I’ve been thinking of making myself a skirt but I’m only used to sewing in 2D and straight lines, so I’m not sure how that might turn out. I guess there’s only one way to find out, and there’s always the seam ripper…

  • Oh my goodness! You have a gorgeous blog! And this post is just wonderful! Great job with the skirt! 😉 I love the matching shoes in both photos!
