nothing gold can stay

November 6, 2008

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
– Robert Frost

I fell in love with all the colorful Autumn trees and leaves we saw on Monday. I wish I could just pack the whole forest up and bring it home, though we did manage to sneak out a few pieces and that will have to do. All the leaves and trees got me making Brave a skirt, using my sewing machine to “paint” the perfect Autumn trees. It is so simple and makes me feel all Fall-like…

I really love this season. Don’t you?

yeah me too! i wish i could actually live in the forest!!! your shots are so so neat. and the sweet little skirt. pretty for a pretty girl! i’m finished with your present. if you don’t love it i will personally drive to california to spank your little behind! lol! no no….it is a joke. the pressie is ready. suspense lingers in the air. the trees are here are gorgeous. they scream color. but i’m afraid that after last night storm we have no leaves. darn it! well, i better get some lunch ready. hugs and hugs and mucho amor! ps: we are twins! i just know it!

  • Beautiful skirt! I can’t believe you can “paint” like that with your sewing machine! 🙂 I love your photography too! You should see our yard… the maples dropped lots and lots of orange and yellow leaves all over the place yesterday… it’s a blanket of color!

    i totally agree.
my whole home comes alive in the fall, because it seems we only move (marry, relocate, buy) in the fall and when I decorate, it’s always the mood for warmth and coziness.
so though the house is warm and cozy always – it loves fall the most.

    and so do i.
(remind me someday to send you photos of my paintings from college, which scatter our home… ALL based on my dreams of leaves)

nathalie and bethany- i wish i could see what your yards look like… ours is dirt. that is it! southern california trees are a brown green, and i think it is all that smog!!!

libby- you paint? maybe you need to post about that!

That is my favorite poem. From the moment I hear Johnny say it in the Outsiders.

The skirt you made was beautiful.

    Happy Friday.

I thought of your perfect sandal from Anthropologie. I know they are not quite as great but,.. they could be helped?

  • Rubyellen says:

grace- oh those sandals!!! my heart goes pitter patter when i think of those!!! yes, the gap ones aren’t as breathtaking, but they are cute!!! i wouldn’t one of those! those are more realistic and don’t break the wallet. Maybe a flower could be made and added… hmmm… now, you got me thinking! Thanks for sharing!!!
