the shopping itch

March 4, 2010

When the shopping itch hits, I go and sew a new dress.

my new dress
The pleated top bodice works nicely as all my clothes must be easy access to Soul’s food. With Spring coming, I really do want to go shopping, but alas living on a budget prevents that, so I think there for sure will be a lot of dress sewing in my very near future.
If I had an unlimited budget, I would want this, this, and this. I am definitely more a dress girl than a jeans girl.

I love it! Is it your own design? I would love to make one of my very own!

love your dress and i also love that last anthro dress you picked out. i was looking at getting that one for my husband's upcoming graduation.

  • Hey — why buy a dress when you can make a prettier one yourself? Seriously, seriously jealous of your sewing talent! Love your dress. πŸ™‚

LOVE IT!! I am such a dress girl too…but we live in the midwest & dresses are COLD in the winter/spring!! I can't wait for the weather to warm up to get out some of my old favorites.

i was just whining on my own blog how I have nothing cute to wear…you might have inspired me to whip out the material and start sewing! is this dress a pattern or your original design??

I am new to reading your blog & love IT!! thank you for giving me some spring inspiration.

  • Rubyellen says:

thank you all. the dress is my own pattern and design, so i am not sure what tips to offer except find a similar dress in your closet, take it apart, and study it, then you will be able to make your own too!

  • Sara says:

your dress is way cuter than those other ones, Ruby!

and that is coming from the biggest JEANS girl on the planet!

Do you ever sell any of your dress designs? I am a nursing Mama and a dress girl and finding cute dresses that are 'whip it out' friendly is hard!

  • Kristi says:

    Good sewing Mama!

Your dress looks like it came from anthrologie….that necklace looks good with it,too. :)I can't wait to see what else you sew for yourself…..inspiration abounds from every one of your posts. πŸ™‚

beautiful! love that it will be easy to nurse in. there's seriously a market for cute dresses like this. i searched and searched for hours after i had my son to find this very thing. but alas, i spent all of last summer in skirts and tops because dresses are so not breast-feeding friendly!

  • DaMonique says:

    That dress is so adorable!

And I know what you mean about the shopping itch and living on a budget!! Unfortunately I gave in to the itch this past week and am now regretting it, slightly. I may have to take your “advice” and just sew myself something nice!!

This is adorable! I would love to make a dress like that for myself – except with enough room for my growing baby bump. πŸ™‚ You've inspired me to make something for myself.

I know that your dresses are usually one-offs and your own design, but have you ever tried selling the dresses you make once you're done wearing them? I'm sure people would buy them – even second-hand!

Like your style of making your own pattern. I am gearing up to make my own clothes but I have been practicing by making clothes for my kiddos…and trying to build a little confidence. I also have found that making my own patterns has been the easiest and most fun for the kids clothes.

I love the dress you made yourself! I also totally love the Oroya Anthropologie dress….I just saw it in their catalog and it was love at first sight. Sadly, I am not skilled at sewing, nor do I have an unlimited budget! I am just learning how to sew, so maybe I will try to find a dress pattern to experiment!

  • It's lovely. I love it!

  • Erin says:

Such a cute dress! And the best part about it is no on else has it πŸ™‚

  • I absolutely love Anthropologie, but we donΒ΄t have in Spain πŸ™

  • Seriously, you are SO creative! That dress is too cute!

I hope you don't mind, but I plan on featuring you and your fabulous blog sometime this week! πŸ™‚
