one week
We’ve got one week left until Ben goes back to work. Ben and I feel there is an invisible hourglass just counting down the minutes. Our list of to-dos are hardly done and we are scrambling to finish. In fact, it seem like new to-dos come up before we are done with the ones we already have.
This week’s learned and links…
– Aunt Flo came back after being gone for 16 months. I didn’t miss her one bit and really don’t like her much, but I don’t plan to get pregnant again, so looks like she will be sticking around for a long while.
– Glow does the army crawl. It’s funny.
– I haven’t ran at all this week, blame Aunt Flo, but I am running the SoCal Color Run tomorrow. Anyone else running it? Maybe I’ll see you on the track!
– Picking up my dining room light fixtures today and my dad is putting it up for us. Yippee!
– True’s got her long a sound down, for the most part, along with different long a vowel pairs and now it is time to move onto long e.
– Brave is my romantic chid. This fact deserves a whole post of its own.
– Got one poster left. The tulip one. If you want it, send me an email!
– True’s birthday is this week and we have got a colorful day planned. Excited!
– No more wrong holes in the wall. Thank you for this Rachel.
This pillow is the bees knees. So cool.
– Loving my red braided clogs. Clog addict for sure.
– My prayer life sucks and I am slowly crawling out of this laziness of not wanting to pray and started praying for little things.
I want and need to depend on God daily, but honestly if you look at my everyday life, you will see a whole lot more of self-centeredness than God-dependance. This usually results in a train wreck and leaves me discontent because obviously being self-centered is always a problem. I definitely want to be more God dependent.
I got some sponsors to share this weekend, so check back and have a happy Saturday and Sunday!

It's ok that you didn't run at all this week… it's actually better! that way your legs are fresh for the rest.

I've loved your blog for a little while but never commented. I very much relate with being lazy in prayer but wanting to make it part of my life. You should check out “A Praying Life” by Paul Miller. It's the most inspiring book and will make you want to pray, especially for your kids.

I've read it! It convicted me and then when I was done, I just didn't keep it up. argh! It is one of those books you need to read snippets here and there to remind yourself. Must put it by my bed again.

I'm so glad that you've read A Praying Life. I was going to recommend here, but I saw that Traci already did. You are right, it *is* one of those books you have to read snippets here and there– to remind yourself and to let that theology sink in! My little family is getting ready for a cross-country trip from Portland to Boston. . . I think Paul Miller will tag along : )

  • i'm not sure how I stumbled upon your blog… but it's great! i have three littles at home… 5, 3, & 10 months and i've truly been encouraged by your honesty and inspired by your creativity. i'm right there with you… i need to work on spending a little more qt time with the lord and shake off my laziness.

you're awesome and your girls are just darling!

  • Aunt Flo… my family called it Pancho but I called my period as “IT”… lol

This is a really personal question maybe to ask in the comments, so please forgive me if it's untoward. I read you blog all the time and am encouraged and emboldened and just cheered up by your posts, especially how honest you are. So my question is, is there a culturally appropriate way for a Phillipino woman to share the gospel with her mother?
totally understand if you don't want to tackle it, but my email is [email protected].
thanks a ton for your great blog-I love it!

    • Rubyellen says:

thank you for asking and it is a fine question to ask, though i am not sure how to answer. i guess i would just share the gospel… while i am filipino, i was born and raised here and my parents moved to the US at such a young age, that I am not quite immersed in the filipino culture so much. i know the food, i understand the language, my tagalog is atrocious though, but i am not sure what the cultural rules are in sharing with a mother would be. i would say just share it and let God do the work in her mother's heart. sorry i couldn't be of more help!
