the cut

the cutthe cutthe cutthe cutthe cutthe cutthe cutthe cutthe cutYup. True has chopped her hair off. Technically, my sister did. All of us went over my newly married sister’s place, we had never been before, and my baby sister came over too and we all watched as True got her hair cut. We were all gathered around her for support. Well, Soul was playing here and there and Glow was whining in her play yard.

If you follow my instagram (@rubyellenbratcher), you may have known about this new do already. This was all True’s idea! She had been waiting to chop it all summer, but due to my sister’s traveling schedule (her and her husband are photographers) and then True wanting it long for Brave’s birthday, it took awhile to actually make the plunge. Unbeknownst to me, she even had a picture to show my sister of how she wanted her hair. And what was this picture that served as her inspiration?! It was a polaroid of Brave when she had short hair! Can True get any cuter?!!

Our rules are no first haircuts until the age of 3, but after that it’s whatever style suits their fancy, within reason of course. She had been wanting to cut her hair because she says long hair is too hot. I guess Brave and True switched places. Brave refuses to cut her hair because she says she wants hair like She-ra. Oh my girls… they are quite the characters!

I’ve been reading your blog for months now and I am just commenting now for the first time! I had to comment because this was the cutest thing I have ever read! I love how your girls are best friends and it’s especially sweet that True used a picture of Brave to show which hair cut she wanted. And I must agree with True on this one, long hair is too hot! 🙂

Oh I love it – I’m desperately trying to convince my little girl to cut her hair, its so fine that it really doesn’t suit being long, but she’s at the age where hair has to be long long long!!
    xx

  • as much as I adore long hair, it does look very cute. I’m glad you got to see your sister’s place!!

I laugh about the she-ra comment. How awesome that a little one watches it!

  • i love the new bob! we are actually thinking of doing the same for our little one, when she turns two in december. our filipina nanny really wanted to cut her hair on the first birthday in keeping with tradition but i chickened out and just couldn’t do it so i think we’ll be ready to pull the trigger for two!

My favourite part of this post: She-ra hair inspiration. That should be a blog post in its own right!

    • mycakies says:

right?! brave’s inspiration is she-ra and true’s is brave’s. my girls are funny!

  • Maria says:

Great post – makes me want to cut my hair too! And I agree that the best part about this post was the She-Ra comment!! Loved her as a kid!!

Cool hair! Curious about the waiting until their 3 to cut tradition. Can you share more?

    • mycakies says:

Hi Alli! It’s just our personal preference to wait until after their 3rd birthday to first cut their hair. we just like to keep them with their baby hair (kinda) as long as possible. soul turns 3 in december and her hair is already super long and well, glow’s will no doubt have really long hair by then too. it’s just our refusal to let them grow up a bit so we wait for first hair cuts until after 3. they also aren’t allowed to wear nail polish until highschool. that’s just something my husband prefers. 😉

How adorable! I love that she took her inspiration from a picture of her sister. That is just the cutest thing ever 🙂
My 5 year old daughter desperately wanted her hair cut short for a about a year before I finally took the plunge and let her get it cut into a bob just before her 4th birthday. She absolutely loved it to begin with but after the first trim she decided that she wanted to grow it back again. We had a few tears when she realised how long it would take to grow back. A year and a half later her hair is as long as ever. She complains a lot that her hair makes her too hot but is yet to ask to have it cut again!
My almost 2 year old daughter really needs her hair cut as it’s so fine and messy but I just can’t bring myself to do it!

Aww, too cute! And so cute that she brought a pic of Brave! I hate cutting my oldest sons hair because he has such pretty locks. But of course after I bite the bullet I think he looks so handsome! My youngest is growing a mullet right now and it needs to be cut but I want the front to grow in a little more before we do the first haircut, and well, he’s my baby and I don’t want to do it! Who knew cutting kids hair would be so emotional!

  • Anna says:

So cute I love the new hair cut and the fact that she had her sisters pic is so crazy cute!

  • becky says:
