huzzah!

October 27, 2012

the misfitI heard True say that to Soul the other day and how true it has been lately. She has been one tough cookie to deal with of late. I don’t know if it’s a really late onset of the terrible two’s, but she has been leaving me (all of us) feeling so overwhelmed. Her obedience has not been “right away, all the way, with a happy heart.” Lately it’s been… no, no, and NO!!! She’s definitely a firecracker. I seriously tell everyone to pray for her and for me because we haven’t been getting along lately. No joke. Actually, she doesn’t get along with anyone. I’m hoping this attitude of defiance passes quickly.

This week’s learned, links, and thankfulness…

This week was the first time Glow ever cried when I told her, “No.” It was so sad, but for her own good.

True really wants to learn to sew. She says next year, she will make her own costumes.

I so want to make these cloud magnets. They would make cute Christmas presents!

The Next Big Thing was another good heart check for me.

Love this cute and simple, vintage Halloween decorating ides. Those bottles are so good!

Thankful Halloween costumes are done. The girls will get to wear it to school, ballet class, and on Halloween night!

SoCal friends, mark your calendar because there will be a Misha Lulu Trunk Show at Common Thread Studio on Nov. 17!

This would be so cute for when the cold weather hits. I have carpel tunnel so my hands need these!

My sister has got some serious skillz. Yes, with a z because she is just that amazing.

This week has been tough as a lot of people in our church family are going through some really difficult circumstances, but I am so thankful to God for the grace that has been poured out regardless during this time of suffering. This Sunday is our church anniversary and if you anyone is in the L.A. area and would love to drop by our gathering, we’d love for you to join us!

Thankful that next week is November. I love November!!! Turkey and stuffing, here I come!

We went to the craft store this week and there was all this Christmas stuff up and the girls said, “Mommy, why do they have Christmas here? It isn’t even Halloween yet.” My response, “It’s because they want to make money.” I wasn’t sure what else to tell them. Maybe I should have told them that they didn’t want to procrastinate and then it would have led to discussion of a new vocabulary word (and hopefully they would learn procrastinating is a bad thing). It baffled their mind to already be decked out for Christmas. Are the Christmas decorations already up at your local stores?

I’ve been seeing some Christmas decorations out and about. Your response to their question is too funny and so so true. You could have used it as a moment to teach them about marketing, perhaps? ha! Love your weekly updates πŸ™‚

I have a son that is just a couple months younger than Glow and this past month has been really difficult for us. Two has been a breeze, but as we are approaching three, he seems to have grown quite the temper and mean side. It is definitely hard to deal with. Lots of prayer is going into it! Just wanted you to know someone else is out there in the same situation.

maybe it is because sheΒ΄s the third one, glow needs more attention, true & brave are like a twins …. and where is Soul? I think in her own way she is the rebel, and rebel is good cause it changes the status quo. πŸ˜€ (and in the other hand is a totally challenge for you)

preachin’ to the choir, girl… iz and soulie must be going through their defiance together. are they swapping notes? haha! “this, too, shall pass”, right? πŸ™‚

miss you and all the girls!!!

  • Thank you for your honesty about Soul. I really appreciate someone saying that things are hard and all the while still appreciating being her mom and loving her…
Because it is hard, but people are afraid to say it…..

    So, Thank you.

very cute frazzled pic. my 3rd son is also a misfit -he is 2 and his older brothers are always like there he goes being a rascal again. It’s his way or the highway -even more so than when my other boys were this age.

  • Jen says:

Our kids are similar ages and my 2 year old is seriously a lot of work!! She can ruin the day for all of us, it’s definitely a challenge! I adore her, but I need a break from her the most πŸ™ I noticed Christmas decorations out when buying fabric for costumes last week too and thought wow, this is early… but it also makes me excited for the holidays!

I think many believe that being the third (and not last) child is the most difficult of all. What’s that saying, Love me most when I deserve it least.

  • Rosalind says:

Isn’t that 3rd child syndrome ;p I feel that way with #1 often – she is quite the contrary Mary. Ann Voskamp (1000 gifts author) says something like – when I am most repelled by a child’s behaviour that my sign to draw the very closest to that child…

    • JennP says:

Rosalind, I like your quote. Very fitting.

Rubyellen, I respect your honesty and integrity for speaking Truth. Many bloggers I follow only write about the joys of parenting so it’s refreshing to read anecdotes about the hardships because – let’s face it – it’s those hardships that define and change our character. God allows for these difficult moments to sanctify us into growing like Jesus. I love your family, your love for God, and your desire to let Him lead. If you don’t mind, I’m praying God gives you the strength and patience with Soul and all your babies. As a mom, I know that prayers are the lifelines between sanity and peace.

We noticed decorations up in September! Craziness. Has the opposite effect one me though, makes me less inclined to buy anything in their store and look elsewhere.
I always thought that the terrible twos was silly. None of mine have had “terrible” twos, but when they hit three, OH boy. Just gotta keep loving on them and praying over them (and escaping for a bubble bath as often as possible).

  • Anastasia says:

Your girl is so cute! I’m sure it’ll pass and she will be as sweet as the other three. πŸ™‚

  • I pray that Soul will be easier to handle and that she will be able to have a change of attitude and that everyone will be wanting to be around her more too! I always felt that the age of 3 was the worst, and not “terrible twos”. It sounds like your girls are living out each of their names, since True was speaking the truth, Brave seems pretty Brave, Soul seems to have her own unique Soul, and Glow. . .still some time there but she definitely glows and I pray her spirit will glow for the Lord. hehe. Your girls are all darlings, but it is frustrating to be a parent a times when there is a reluctance on their part. I get frustrated pretty regularly. It is nice to know that you have the ability to admit such a thing too in regards with Soul. May your church family be well provided for and have their issues brought out. God loves them and cares so much for them each. He cares for the sparrows, and therefore cares so much more for them! Please pray for us here in NJ. We are about to get hit by Hurricane Sandy and my parents already live in a bad flood zone and last year when Irene hit us they suffered and lost a lot, though not as much as some of their neighbors did. Pray though that the storm will disappear and that God will protect us all from harm and destruction.

Off topic, but your girls sure know how to pose. This picture of Soul could go right into a fashion blog!

i have a little guy who is a month older than soul. he is a “no” guy himself and i do find myself at odds with him often. it’s not a good feeling to have as a mom when you are not “liking” your little one! of course we always love them, but the “liking” is not always easy! our beloved pediatrician told me before he retired that the child that is the most like you will be the hardest to deal with. i often keep that in mind–similar personalities clashing! i wish you much patience in your journey with her!

  • Karla says:

Ruby how old is soul again? I vaguely remember she was born around my 3 year old daughters birthday in march.
Anyway we are dealing with the same here. The third child and surely the most defiant and difficult. Lots of nos and wanting to be the boss. In 7.5 years of parenting I have been lucky to avoid any type off tantrum in a public place or store. This week buying tomatoes in Australia she had a fit because she had no money to spend. I was shocked! We do not buy our kids toys through the year. Bday and Xmas and ocassinal pocket money for star reward chart. Horrified that she was acting like this over tomato plants and soil!
Maybe it’s this time of year but I am feeling your pain and frustration!!!

  • Melanie says:

I laughed out loud at what True said to Soul…wow, I can totally relate. My daughter (who’s 5) has had more than her share of misfit moments that leave this mommy exhausted and exasperated. But I wouldn’t trade her for the world, even if she can be demanding, stubborn and unreasonable at times. πŸ™‚ Girls. Good luck!
