hey singapore!

June 18, 2014

projectsprojectsI’m headed your way soon, so if you’re able, don’t forget to sign up for either the felt flower making class or learn how to make the paper chandelier (pajaki). There are still some spots in both classes, so sign up for one or both (you can blend your two new skills together) and get ready for a fun afternoon/evening of crafting and chatting with me andย Bloesem! Hope to see some of you there!

And please do share where we (Ben and I) should eat, shop, and see while we’re there. I’m thankful for the suggestions some of you have already sent over.

Everything looks delicious!!! I don’t even know how to plan out my trip… there’s so much to eat!

Oh I know! Usually when you go to a food court (or called hawker centre), they have different booths that sells almost everything on the list. That way, you can eat them all in just one seating!

    Hi Ruby!
I love your blog. I’ve been following you for years! Too bad I won’t be able to join your class.

I’m not Singaporean, but I’ve been there so many times (just two hour plane ride from Jakarta), here are my suggestions:
    – The food court in Lucky Plaza has lots of delicious options and the price is not bad. For even cheaper options, try the one in Chinatown ^^
    – I always go to Bugis for shopping at bargain prices
    – The Singapore river cruise is worth a try (in my opinion), ditto the Singapore Art Museum
    – And of course there’s the magnificent Marina Bay Sands ๐Ÿ˜€

    Have fun in Singapore!!

    Hi! I’m from Singapore (:

One place I would recommend would definitely be TIong Bahru (http://www.ladyironchef.com/2013/03/guide-to-tiong-bahru-singapore/ and http://cafehopping.sg/?s=tiong+bahru). It’s a quaint little neighbourhood with lots of cafes and little shops hidden round its corners, there are lots of food options available there as well. Tiong Bahru Bakery would be good for brunch/tea. 2 face would be good for dinner – traditional kopitiam (Singapore’s way of naming a food/coffeshop) in the day, a pizza and bar at night.

Another must-go dinner place is Singapore Flyer’s food trail. It offers most of our country’s must-try local food, and it is also decorated and designed to look like Singapore in its olden days. (https://www.google.com.sg/search?q=singapore+flyer+kopitiam&espv=2&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=mOKoU8GkN9O68gWnzIGQAg&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ&biw=1185&bih=591#q=singapore+flyer+food+trail&tbm=isch&imgdii=_)

For shopping, do check out Haji Lane – in Bugis. The shophouses there houses several unconventional finds that you wouldn’t see in our usual shopping malls. Some of these shops sells vintage items as well. There are several cafes near the region, (http://cafehopping.sg/?s=bugis) for you to pop by if you’re tired from shopping.
While you’re in Bugis, do check out Bugis Street for cheap finds, but be prepared for large crowds and lots of squeezing. Bargaining is not uncommon, but Singaporeans typically accept the first price stated.

Otherwise, there are the usual tourist attractions, Marina Bay Sands, Night Safari, Sentosa, USS.

There are lots of places to visit, depending on the number of days you are spending here. Do let me know if there’s more you’ll like to find out (:

    Hope you’ll have fun!

Definitely Singapore Art Museum. the Gardens by the Bay.

go to the White Rabbit – it’s a converted beautiful church.

To eat: go to lucha loco, Esquina, Burnt Ends, Moose Head, KILO is great.

Shop: Tiong Bahru – very cool neighborhood you’ll love. there is Tiong Bahru Bakery, and then meander down to Books Actually- a bunch of lovely shops and coffee places in that area.

PS Cafe petit at Tiong Bahru for quick bite. or Bincho at night for some authentic japanese yakitori style meal. it’s a secret place and an excellent japanese whiskey bar in the back.

to shop: it’s hit or miss… the big brands are huge and everywhere. for little shops check out the editor’s market. far east plaza for local small designers – cheap too.
