huzzah! and confessions

July 12, 2014

kids at play

Thought it be fun to share some confessions…

I bring out the play dough when I need a babysitter for the girls so I can get things done. See here.

The birkenstock thing is way overdone, but I still love it. I loved it in elementary school, early college, and still now. I’ve never been onboard with adult salt-water sandals (for me), but the birkenstock, I love. Plus, it feels really good for my one bad foot.

I’m a potty mouth. Bad words easily spew from my mouth in times of frustration.

When my BFF and I visited Amsterdam when we were in college, I wanted to try a “brownie.” She didn’t let me.

I’ve worn crocs (in the garden, proof here) and my little ones have worn them too (I think they’re cuter on wee feet). They’re easy and convenient for play and getting dirty.

I totally hit on Ben first.

I never got into the chevron thing. Does that make me a bad blogger?

When Ben asks me the price of something, I always round down.

I get road rage and have thrown up the bird a few times. I’m so bad!!! Totally not proud of it and it’s something I keep trying to work on. It’s so dumb!

The first time I had way too much to drink was at a dinner I made at my parents house. I cooked dinner for the family, and I paired with a drink called “lust in the dust,” which was vodka with tabasco sauce. What was I thinking?! To this day, I still can’t have tabasco sauce. Ben was there to take care of the aftermath.

We all put our best foot forward on the internets, so here’s some silly things about me, and some not so proud moments/choices that I have learned from or still trying to learn. One of my biggest struggles is being more gracious with my words when I’m frustrated. I’m a work in progress, but aren’t we all?!

It’s nice to see behind the facade sometimes. We all certainly put our best food forward online with our words, our images, etc. but sometimes it’s nice to remember we’re all humans! I have the worst potty mouth too. It doesn’t help that I don’t have kids and work from home so I never really have to censor myself.

I agree! We are all just trying our best, and we all fail at certain things, but it’s hard to remember that when looking at blogs sometimes. Blogs can be harmful when you forget the reality of things.

I like this post. My newest “I really need a few minutes here” discovery is bubble wrap. My 4 & 2 year old love dancing on it.

Bad day confession: once I let them dump a whole box of corn pops on the floor and I just walked away. I needed about 15 minutes to get it together emotionally. Do not try this. They stick to everything, clothes, feet, the bed, the broom, the dustpan. Who knows though, what was a really hard afternoon for me may end up being a favorite memory for them. I also cuss like a sailor. It is a hard hard habit to break for me.

Loved reading this. I usually “talk” to people (who can’t hear me) about their driving. Like “hey, its called driving, you should learn it *@#$%#%$”. The other day we were driving somewhere and my oldest said “hey, where did you buy your license?” to a lady who pulled out right in front of me. I’m not one to curse 24/7 but it does come out sometimes and now my daughter will say “ooooh, thats a bad word”. It does improve with time, I do say 90% less curse words nowadays than when I was in my teenage years. Loved the post!!! 🙂

My good friend has serious road rage too and she has been doing some cognitive behavioural therapy, every time she gets ragey she says ‘everyone is just trying their best’. I have tried it and helps… if only a little 🙂

  • Vanessa says:

Hey, it’s tough NOT to have road rage when you live in Southern California. I feel ya.

I’ve developed a bad mouth within the last few years and it’s primarily when I am angry! I do need to figure that out as well. As for chevron, I liked the pattern and didn’t even know what it was called haha. I have a chevron painted wall that I love. Continue to keep it real!

    it’s your home ?
the name of the city “la ferte mace” on the wall, it’s neer to my house 🙂

    • Rubyellen says:

Nope, I’ve never been there, nor lived anywhere near there. It was bought from a local flea market from a French vendor. They frequent France often to bring some awesome goodies here. I love my sign so much!

  • Hannah says:

Eeep I have the worst mouth too!!! Definitely gotta work on that 😉

  • WHAT!! I read your blog all the time and never would’ve guessed about the potty mouth! :X 😀 I have one too while driving, and try to blame it on my naturally red hair (???), eeeek! Thanks for sharing!
