huzzah!

August 9, 2014

pool daysThis week’s learned, links, and thankfulness…

Thankful that the girls can entertain themselves while I get house things done, and Netflix (and the iPad) comes in handy sometimes too.

This will probably surprise you, but Glow still naps twice a day. It’s insane! She will still sleep and if doesn’t get her naps, she is one cranky girl.

We had all my old youth leaders (and their families) over for dinner this week. I loved seeing my girls having fun with all their kids. It was crazy loud in our house.

These sandwiches look delicious.

I’ve had major headaches lately, so I’m thankful for chocolate ice cream because they really help get rid of them! One afternoon this past week, Soul came up to me and said, “I have a headache.” I said, “If I kiss it, will it feel better?” She said, “No.” I said, “What do you want then?” Then, she gave me that sly smile. I realized what that sly smile meant and I started laughing to myself because she wanted ice cream. HA!

I’m pretty good about getting blog posts up even while we’re away, but it was nice to keep it quiet here earlier in the week.

Finally watched Divergent! Books are always better, but I think the translation was still pretty good.

This space has been such a good spot to share my heart, things we’re making (and sometimes wearing), recipes, stories, pictures, and just a whole bunch of other things. I wanted to know from you, is there anything you particularly want me to share more of? I really would love to know, and I’m always thankful for the time you take to visit this space! xoxo

I’m jumping into homeschooling with my 5 and 3 yr old with a baby coming in a week, ha! I would love to read more about how you schedule, plan, balance and organize and what resources/curriculums you use. I graduated with an elementary education degree, which helps a little, but this is new and slightly scary :). Your blog is one of my faves! You and your family are so sweet and real, love it!

I love your clothing and craft posts! You have such a great eye and are so creative!

  • Love all your creativity. It inspires me!

Love your blog and your sweet family:) I also really dig your eye for design and can’t get enough of the posts where you show corners of your home and how you’re styling them. I love the warts and all images too;) Love it all!!! Xoxo

Your blog is perfect the way it is ruby! For me though I’m more drawn to the personal aspect of blogs, I’d love to read more about your faith, marriage + raising your girls! xx

Totally agree with Danica. Love it all. As an independent girl and artist in LA, it’s really cool to see how you guys have balanced things. Also love seeing the journey your sister is on right now. Keep on keeping on!

I’d love to see your pick on children’s toys. we are kind of picky about toys because we don’t want to buy stuff and then they are bored with it, and it’s a waste of money. also, i know your kids are not in the crawling stage anymore but have you seen a cute baby walker or use one at all? i can’t seem to find one that i’m sold on.

    thanks! 🙂

I love your blog! I don’t comment regularly but it’s the only blog I read on a regular basis. I would love to see more of your garden! It’s such an inspiration to me!

Your blog is my favorite. You seem to have so much energy. What inspires that? And what does a regular day look like at your house?

Ruby, I’ve been reading your blog for about 2 years now & even though I’m only 22 and no not one bit about motherhood, SOMETHING keeps drawing me back. I think it’s not only your clever eye for style and beauty, but also how real you are in this space. I give you credit for continually opening up to people who really only know you in writing in photos– it is not an easy task to do that while also maintaining an image that is completely genuine. I have never felt as if you are writing to brag or to convince others that your style & way of life is somehow superior. I love how humble you are in that way. Its so funny how much I feel like I know you & your family just from the regualar glimpses of your life that I read! Keep on doing whatever floats your boat! xo

p.s. You should share sometime about your hair– I’ve been considering the ombre look and yours is really fitting!

Your inspiring garden and orchard and it’s continuing growth!

This may be something you have covered, but I would love to learn more about your schedule. I don’t homeschool but I have 3 little ones still at home with me and I can’t do any mega cooking or sewing or workbooks with them. I love making dinner but if I am planning a dinner I spend half the day shopping then cooking… I hardly have a chance to look at my kids! I feel like I am treading water. So I would love to hear how you manage it all.
Also, I picked up your book at the library today. How amazing to have written a book, and how amazing to have your book in libraries! I can’t imagine.

  • Thanks for asking us for feedback! I check your blog daily and so enjoy following along in your adventures! Would love to know your budgeting tips! (in general and especially for groceries), and – as mentioned above- more on faith, marriage + raising your girls! Also curious to know what your thoughts are on purchasing things from big box stores and whether or not you make sure that their business practices are sound (such as fair wages and healthy working conditions at overseas manufacturing locations, etc.) This goes for stores you partner with like Michaels, Old Navy, etc.

My daughter is 4 and a half and still really needs a good two hour nap everyday, most people can’t believe our luck:)
Obviously you know I love your blog but if I could think of something I wish you shared even more about it would be your daily rhythm. xoxo

All things house, garden and homeschool! I love the blog as is, but the little peeks into those other areas is so enticing! 🙂

Obviously you have a lot of people who like different aspects of your blog. My 2cents: I love it as-is but my favorite pays ate just your family adventures. I miss the days where you and the girls wore more vintage but I know they have their own opinions (how dare they, right?). Also love the crafts!

Love, love, love your blog. I read it with coffee in the morning. 🙂 I have three beautiful little ones so you have me by 1! They create and give me so many things and I have an over-flowing basket that I place it all in…but its a mess and not organized. How to you save/tidy up all your “keepers”?? Also cook many of things you post-it just gives me a fresh idea to run with so THANK YOU!

  • Cait says:

I love just the normal life posts, glimpses of your home (BECAUSE IT’S GORGEOUS!), and stuff like that. Would be curious on budgeting because you seem to have that nicely organized, plus the orchard makes me super curious!

  • Christine says:

One of my favorite posts you ever did was just your daily life schedule with photos. It may have been as a guest feature for a different blog….but it was just nice as a mom in the trenches here to see how someone I admire does it 🙂
