huzzah!

February 7, 2015

tiny square of our backyardThis week’s learned, links, and thankfulness…

I’m so thankful for the good rhythm the girls and I had together this week.

I think Ben and I found a bed frame we want! We are thinking about getting this one (or this), but now we just need to find the right mattress. We are looking for a natural one that is nice and firm, but it’s been proving to be a difficult thing to find. Our mattress search started two years ago and we still don’t know what to pick.

I want to make a teepee like this!

These spring rolls look absolutely delicious!

I like this striped Zara dress.

Ben sent me this article on herbal supplements and how they aren’t what they seem. Surprise, surprise.

Love this cute and simple cotton bag by Gidsy & Jo.

Ben and I have been watching clips of Jimmy Fallon skits from The Tonight Show, and he’s so funny. I think way better than Jay Leno. The current Saved by the Bell one is funny. Ben was left wanting a full episode. LOL

“The Snare of Compare” article spoke to my heart.

I love this cookie love gram (with printout). It’s so clever!

Glow still hates sitting on the potty. Ugh! How do I get this girl potty trained?!

How’s life going in your neck of the woods?

We should look for a new mattress as well, thanks for reminding me. My back has been sore for a while after sleeping… :-/

  • Cookie love grams? Such a cute idea! Also, I love Zara for anything and everything. Great links, thank you!

Hi, I’ve got an idea for you on the potty training issue. My daughter wouldn’t sit on the potty so I put the little seat onto the toilet seat and a little kiddie stepping stool in front of it. She used that instead and to be honest when I ought about it, I was double handling potty things when I didn’t need to. So for my third child I didn’t even have a potty and we did the toilet seat and step stool. Gosh life was simpler. All the best with it. I read the compare article you linked and I like the perspective., it’s the first time I’ve read an article from this perspective. To see the positive of it serving a purpose, I feel a lot better about where my heads at. I am working on being open to God and Him giving the confirdence to use talents, that I hadn’t realised I had until recently for His glory and a strong reliance on Him to move forward with them. Happy days to you xo

Man. We tried both those potty things and didn’t work. She hates sitting on the potty. It’s like a waste of time to her because it takes away from her play time! hahahaha

I agree, life is a constant learning to grow and depend on God.

Wow! Thank you for sharing our Valentine cookie craft with your readers. We’ve been following your blog for years and as Christian mothers (and teachers!) to young children, we admire your honesty in your posts. It’s refreshing to see that we share similar struggles and how a closeness with God soothes the most frustrated heart. We pray God continues working in your life. xoxo, Jennifer + Christine

I love what you guys do over there too! And thank you for encouraging me. I get so scared to share parts of my heart sometimes, but I figure, if I’m feeling this, I’m sure others are too, and maybe we could all encourage each other in that we aren’t alone!

Those spring rolls make me so hungry! Great article on the supplements too. Pretty bed frame! Just fyi: Since we got a memory foam mattress we always look forward to going home to sleep even when we get to stay in really nice hotels! those are the best! Even pregnant I can sleep pretty well thanks to it.

    • Rubyellen says:

We liked the memory foam ones too! Our concern is just the chemicals they put in. Or maybe we are overthinking things. This mattress hunt has been going on for 2 years! lol

What a gorgeous picture. Are those shutters in your garden? We bought a Savvy Rest natural mattress this past year and are loving it. You can pick how soft or firm you want it, and switch it up however you like. Ours is pretty soft (we are side sleepers a lot), but you can even make each layer be firm if you want! It was a splurge for sure, but not more than a lot of fancy conventional mattresses, and Lord willing it will last us for the whole twenty year warranty…if we don’t void it by getting it wet, especially with kids! The wool pad is a must but not totally water proof.

    • Rubyellen says:

Yes, the shutters are just old ones i have in the garden for some decor. A friend got them at a flea market for her wedding and gave it to me after.

I will check out that bed. Thank you for sharing! We are in such need for a new mattress, but just can’t find the right one!
