rattan mirrors

June 16, 2016

Since we are doing some home renovating, I’ve got lots of decorating on my mind. I’ve always adored vintage French rattan mirrors and was considering one for one of the girls’ rooms. A few months ago, I saw Target carried one that looks just like the vintage ones, and it recently went on clearance. I texted Ben to see if he liked it or if he would rather have a vintage one. Unfortunately though, he was “eh” about them. Then, he said if a Target one looks just like a vintage one, then it’s probably not unique enough. I chuckled at his response, and while he’s not wild about the mirrors, I still like them.

First one below is this vintage one and the second one is this one from Target. Would you do vintage (and pay more) or just pick up the Target one?

well, I would always rather have vintage. but I bought the target mirror a few days ago (I’d been eyeing it for a while and when it was marked half off, I took it as a sign) and I love it so, so much! my house is probably 90 percent vintage so it’s nice to have a new piece!

the vintage one is way cuter…and probably more durable. vintage is almost always made better!

i like the vintage ones better too, but if you like the new one a lot…i’d say, go for it! just don’t get it b/c you’re settling. 🙂 that’s just my two cents.

agree with comments by andrea, erica and jane. i’d choose vintage first for its uniqueness/originality/durability/value/ ecological “green-ness” and buy new only if i loved it as is.

    best wishes!

I’m convinced. Vintage it is! It’s what my gut was telling, but the Target price was teasing me.

Vintage! We had four rattan mirrors on our kitchen wall when I was growing up — funny how all old trends come around again. 🙂

Yeah, that’s one reason my husband didn’t like it. He said it was too 80s for him.

I am having the same struggle with the rattan bar cart from Target. I was even thinking- if I get it and tell him its from the thrift store he could believe me. lol I go back and forth. I would love to find one out antiquing or thrifting but what if I never do?!

Definitely the Target one — it’s very striking looking and who cares where you bought it, as long as it looks pretty 🙂

Plus, I always like to support Target. They’re a good company, and support a lot of charities in local communities. So never feel sorry for parting with my money in a Target store 🙂
