FAMILY MEALS: WEEK SEVENTEEN

May 11, 2012

Yup. Like I thought, not much cooking this week. We are still basically living upstairs and can’t really use our kitchen much, so cooking is pretty much nada.
Ben did make some black bean burgers, but even that was using some frozen patties he bought from the market…

In a pinch, they worked. We were out of buns, so good ‘ole whole wheat bread had to do, and we added some avocados and chipotles and we called it a dinner. With a side of broccoli. Balance is good. It was yummy, we were fed, and that’s as fancy as we get this week.
Now throw in some panda express, frozen pizzas, and maybe sunflower butter sandwiches and those are what our other nights comprised of. We have about a week left of living like this (there have been some hold ups), but we are getting antsy over here and can’t wait to get this home back in working order. Plus, this mama is ready to decorate!  Next week, will be another quick and easy dinner week for us, but I will put a meal plan here from one of our favorite weeks just in case some of you need ideas.
Week 5/14 – 5/18
Wednesday: Spaghetti & Meatballs
Thursday: Leftovers
Friday: Pizza
When you can’t cook in your kitchen, what’s a quick and easy thing you put together?

DIY: SWEET BIRD HANGING

diy: sweet bird hanging

This is another quickie afternoon project to do with the kids (inspired by this bird hanging), using things you probably already have lying around your house. I had a box of little vintage birdies, but you can get some cute ones at your local craft store. I didn’t give out exact measurements because it will differ depending on the size of your stick and how big you want your arch. Also, I used gorilla glue to attach my bird, but the birds also had some wires on the bottom that we just wrapped around the stick. I think the a hot glue gun would work just as well, maybe even better. It’s just I found the cord of mine cut right when I was gathering materials (it was one of the girls, but no one has fessed up).
This is perfect for a little reading corner, hanging over a bed, or in a baby nursery. Don’t all the birdies look so sweet hanging out together?! We haven’t decided where to hang these up just yet, but no matter where they go, they will definitely look sweet.

THEY DANCED AND WE HAD DONUTS

The big girls had dance class, so the babies and I went on a donut date. Soul’s got the sweetest tooth of all, so you can imagine her excitement when we walked in and all these pretty donuts were at her eye level. We got a dozen donut holes for $1.50, which I think is a darn good deal, but then again, I haven’t bought donuts in about 10 years, so maybe that’s normal. And I must say those were the best donut holes I have ever had. Again, maybe any donut will taste good to me at this point, which now makes me curious to go to other donut shops just to compare.
It was a nice day out of the house since we have been pretty much cooped upstairs due to the flooring changing going on downstairs. The big girls danced, the little girls had donuts (okay, Glow got hers in a donut milkshake), and that made for a good morning.

CAKIES ON A BEAUTIFUL MESS

May 8, 2012

I am excited to be a new contributor on the A Beautiful Mess blog. Elsie & Emma always have tons of stuff going on from foodie things to DIY’s to vintage-y things and I am glad to be a part of it. My first posts are all about greenifying your home. I am all about plants. Love them inside (and out) and they are good for cleaning air, so I was glad to share my little bit of knowledge with the ABM readers.

I am sure you have heard of A Beautiful Mess, but if you haven’t, be sure to check it out. If you are a newbie crafter or an experienced one, there is something for everyone there.

OUT TO SCHOOL: WEEK TWENTY-SEVEN

This picture makes her seem so big. How did we get here so fast? I like to look back on old pictures of True and I can hardly believe she was once a little teeny baby and my one and only one for, oh, about 6 months until I got pregnant again (Brave was a surprise!). She changes Soul’s diaper (pee only) and she is a little writer. She loves to write stories. We like reading them. Future blogger?! Maybe.
