jelly sandwiches for breakfast

End up all over the place, especially their little faces…

But the tummies are happy, so I guess that is all that matters.

the cooking apprentice

October 16, 2008

With the new season, comes time to try the vegetables of the season. Ben takes this as a learning opportunity for his little healthy cooking apprentice.

The vegetable of the evening… acorn squash.

The recipe of the evening… Roasted Acorn Squash and Gorgonzola Pizza.

First, they set off to play Pat-a-cake…

They rolled it, and patted it, but didn’t mark it with a B…

Then came time to prepare the featured vegetable…

Once again, they rolled it, patted it, but didn’t mark it with a B…

Later they took it out of the oven, for Ben, True-y and me…
This was so yummy and the acorn squash was super delicious. It kind of reminds me of sweet potato, kinda. Nevertheless, whole wheat crust, fine cheese, and autumn vegetables make for a wonderful dinner. Let us not forget my two adorable cooks!

Eating healthy is really yummy… or maybe my Ben and True are just really good cooks.

mealtime

October 6, 2008

Light pappered chicken with a side of scribbled broccoli and strawberries…

True declares, “Eat! Eat! Eat!”

Then, as usual, Brave always wants what’s on True’s plate. It’s funny how even when I make two sets of something, they still go after the same one…

I guess sharing is not an innate ability.
These quickly made eatery softies have become such hit at our house. I think I need to make one for Ben and me, so that we  have a place at the pretend play table too, cause these little babyCakies make mealtime look fun and delicious…
Bon appetit!

friday night celebration

September 29, 2008

My superly-duperly, hot husband came home Friday night with a little surprise to celebrate our good news. My Benny and True were going to make one of my favorite salsas, Jicama Salsa…

Benny is a natural in the kitchen and I think True is taking after him (even their hair looks the same)…
As they cut together, Benny teaches her all the names of the vegetables in Spanish and in English. It is quite adorable to see them work!
The final product, “Voila!”
My Benny’s Jicama Salsa
1 jicama
a bunch of tomatillos
a bunch of red, orange & yellow bell peppers
1 bunch cilantro
a bunch tomatoes
3 corn (boil then cut from the cob or maybe can just use a can, if not fresh)
about 5 limes/lemons (use to taste)
lots of serrano peppers (depending how spicy you want it)
1/4 head of garlic (depending how much you love this stuff)
salt
Cut and dice everything up (except the lime). Throw it in a large bowl. Mix. Add lime and salt to taste. Now, grab a chip and dip right in… yummy!
Thank you everyone who has commented so far! It is nice to meet a lot of you and I hope you come back to visit. friends, a flea market, and shaved ice

August 19, 2008

What more can a girl ask for on Sunday afternoon…

Nothing beats the heat like some sweet fruit and milky, shaved ice…

I got a few goodies, but we are really starting to cut back and budget even more for some future plans we are praying about, so my goodies will be lessened slowly.

Thanks Helen, little seester, and Irene (who has an etsy store opening up in the near future, so stay tuned) for a lovely trek through the heat in search of treasure and shaved iced!!!

cupcakes and pops

August 9, 2008

girls napping + quiet time = cupcakes

Also, I just finished another batch of Red Velvet Pops for our godson’s 2nd birthday party tomorrow… I think I am a pro at making these pops! Anyone want some?!!

It has definitely been a full week, rather a full few weeks. I have a few things I want to make and hopefully put in the shop. A few new crowns are ready and my sketch book is full of new ideas that I hope I can get to those soon, but next week will be devoted to finishing one pretty exciting project that has had me smiling from ear to ear. I can’t wait to share it with you…
Until then, have a splendid weekend!!!
