dried up

June 22, 2010

Honestly, lately I have been feeling a bit dried up in the crafty department. Not really in a mood to sew or make anything. I get little spurts here and there, which usually results in a necklace, but other than that I have felt kaput! Seriously. I haven’t sewn to just sew in a very long while. I think part of it is I have now 3 to take care of and time isn’t the same, another part of it is my studio area is really, really a bad mess, and the other part just is me feeling blah! Oh and another part is gardening has been taking a lot of my time.
Yesterday, I was pruning, deadheading, and watering outside and I was getting rid of these dried up blooms on some rose bushes. I got them all clumped up together on a table ready to be tossed when I noticed they all looked so pretty that I couldn’t resist running in the house to grab the camera. Even dried up roses are absolutely beautiful, they remind me a bit of fabric.
drying uproses are always prettypretty dying roses
These simple roses inspired me, rather reminded me, of my own state of dried up-ness. Though, I haven’t been crafting much of late lots of other good things have been happening, like a lot of cuddling with my babes which are much more important. Them being little last for only a short season and this season needs to be treasured as much as possible.
The roses live and die and get cut off the stem, with the rose bush only to flower again later with new blooms. I will let that be me. Right now I am in the die and cut off stage, and I just need to regenerate a bit and I will be back. Before you know it, I will be itching to sew again, my sketch book will be brimming with new little projects, and unfinished ones will be completed. Until then, I will continue loving up the darlings in my life because they will always be what is most important. Don’t you agree?
Enjoy your tuesday friends!

I do agree! It is such a very short season when they are small. There will be long empty days to do what we wish soon enough and I bet then we will be longing for little ones to snuggle! Such a lovely post. Thanks for helping me remember what is important.

I hope you get hydrated soon. I had a dry crafty period a for 3 months this spring, luckily it correlated to my 1st trimester of my 1st baby so I am back at it. ๐Ÿ™‚
p.s. those flowers are so stunning.

Those flowers do look lovely all bunched up together on your table…lovely! We all go through those “dried up” stages…before you know it you'll be back to being crafty and having energy. You have so much to occupy your time and your time is indeed best spent with those precious little ones that will leave their nest far too sonn, unfortunately. You just blink and they will be gone.My husband and i always look back at our babies pics and wonder how they time flew away from us…..I wish I could go back in time an do more things with my girls…do more reading, take more nature walks,do more crafting, etc. At least you have realized this now instead of when they are older.I will be happy to see you crafting again but till then I'll be more than happy to see your girls pics. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • I think it's normal to feel that way! I've been feeling a little dried up myself lately. Now for me it might be because I have a cast on my leg and haven't been able to do anything for so long. It's amazing how restless it can get you. You are a busy gal and an inspiration to so many. Take some time with your kiddos and you'll be back and sewing and creating in no time!

thanks for the reminder that un-crafty spells happen to the best of us! i only have two little ones and they take up ALL of my time!

    Hi.
I came across your blog about a month ago and every time a read it it makes me smile. I too have been feeling dried up lately, struggling to have a relationship with God, finding the right work fit, and just overall feeling overwhelmed and lost. Getting a peak into your family and home life has pushed me to reacquaint myself with the things that make me feel happy and at peace. Thank you!

I love that you're sharing how life has shifted and choosing to focus on this part being a season. I need reminding of this regularly, it seems.

Ruby is scooting everywhere and pulling up on things! She's now easily entertained by her own curiosity but I have to be ever mindful of where I keep things!

Give your girls a squeeze for me!

i agree. just the other day, my hubby mentioned that he hasn't seen me touch my sewing machine in a long time. but to be honest, evening walks, spending time cuddling on the couch, afternoons at the park have kind taken over… and i like it!

I feel hopeless when I see wilting flowers. Though they are dying I still watch them out of fondness at how though at its last few moments of life they are still elegant and danty.

  • I couldn't agree more. Some times I get so caught up in making things for my 3 girls that I forget to enjoy time with my girls. Time is so precious. Thanks for sharing your life. I enjoy reading your stories.

Thanks for opening up about what it's like to not be creative. I'm working my way out of a non creative spell right now.

Actually, you helped. I was inspired by your photo and did a mixed media piece using your photo as a reference, here

These roses look gorgeous, I love faded beauty! I am feeling the same with the craft, a few things are sitting around half finished, but I'm uninspired to finish them. I just keep walking past and looking at the sewing machine, sitting idle.I'm hoping it will change soon:)

  • Your post pretty much sums up how I have been feeling too. I was just thinking about how blah I was feeling, then I read your post. I just had my third boy 8 weeks ago, and you are right…time isn't the same. I find myself really wanting to just hold the baby and spend time with the boys. They are just small once. I used to feel a lot more creative, probably because my studio is a really big mess too!

You'll get that creativity back soon, so enjoy the time off. You are so talented, thanks for sharing. Good job in raising your little cuties. Your a great mommy!
