Last week has been special because Ben’s mom and sister were in town (they haven’t been here in a few years), so we were relishing our time together. There was a lot of special grandmama time with the girls, and a lot of sister bonding time between Ben’s sister and me. We saw them in Texas this past Christmas, but it’s been awhile since they’ve been on our turf, so we are having fun hosting and cooking them some of our favorite foods. If you know us, well, more the girls and me (not Ben), the first thing on the agenda was take them to our favorite ice cream place, A la Minute. His mom and sister agreed that their ice cream is pretty terrific and the best they both ever had. There wasn’t much on our agenda during their stay except spend quality time together. We did have plans to go to the Lavender Festival, but Ben’s mom and sister got sick the last two days, so we had to scrap that idea. Thankfully, the festival will be going on next weekend, so Ben and I are hoping we can still take the two little ones. It was a fast 5 days with them and we look forward to seeing them again in July when they come back to drop off the big girls.
Why would you read an O’Reilly book?!
I think it was a gift from my MIL last Christmas and she probably picked it to read because she remembers giving it. I wasn’t paying much attention to what they were reading, but capturing the memory of them reading together.
Agreed with the previous comment, why would you read an O’Reilly book? It astonishes me that evangelicals rally around a man who sexual harasses and demeans women. This is not a godly example.
I think it was a gift from my MIL last Christmas and she probably picked it to read because she remembers giving it. I wasn’t paying much attention to what they were reading, but capturing the memory of them reading together. This post isn’t meant to rally around him at all. I’m not sure my MIL even realized it when she got this book. She probably just liked the title of it, “Give Please a Chance,” and knowing her, she bought it at a half price book store as she’s always getting us books from there. I definitely don’t condone his behavior, but her intent (and mine) wasn’t meant to support him at all. If it were a book I was highly recommending, I would have linked to it. Thank you for feeling comfortable to say something. I’ve removed the photo (and keep it just for us as it was special because of them together, not because of what they were reading), but so that it is clear that I don’t support him.
Hi, thanks for the comment. Tbh it does look like a book that could be good – I flipped through it at a sale table once but didn’t get it because I despise O’Reilly. And then a few days later I came across this article by complete chance https://www.theguardian.com/books/2016/nov/26/bill-oreilly-give-please-a-chance-childrens-book – and was very glad I didn’t actually buy it.
Thank you for sharing that article!
