Our days are filled with lots of schooling. It’s the priority of the day and takes up most of it. I can definitely see how Brave has grown in these past couple months, her hand-eye coordination is getting better and her reading continues to improve. I’m thankful that I can be part of all that, but trust me, I am no perfectly patient teacher.
We are reading through Aesop’s Fables and True can read the stories to us! It’s so exciting. She loves reading and is always reading (or drawing). Ben’s mom tells us stories of how much Ben loved reading as a kid and I imagine True is pretty much Ben reincarnate. She really is. I, on the other hand, hated reading as a kid. I remember that when I had to turn in book reports, I would only read the first and last page of each chapter and then base my book report off of that. I can’t believe I was so lazy! My love for reading didn’t happen until middle school when I picked up a R.L. Stine book and fell in love with scary stories. After that I moved on to the Christy Miller Series and there was no stopping my love for reading any longer. Reading is like watching a movie in your mind… I love it!
I hope (and pray) I am able to instill in my girls a love for learning and reading. There is so much to learn that we are just barely starting to scratch the surface of it all. Also, despite how crazy of a mom-teacher I might be, I am so glad they like learning from me!
THE CHRISTY MILLER SERIES!! My grandmother bought them for me and I’d go through those like candy. I think it’s why I thought I’d probably meet the man I was going to marry in college (and I did)! I wanted my life to be just like hers!
Seeing your girls working on cursive, presidential memorization, and the 5 kingdom facts is encouraging! Our kids are so capable if only we guide them through things and let them know we expect them to succeed. It makes me want to know more about the curriculum Sebastian’s school is using and spend more time on his penmanship than we’ve been doing.
Wow! That was 8th grade science class for me! Homeschooling rocks! Hoping to do it for our kids someday. (Our 1st is 1 so we’re still a ways away from that.)
Hello!!!
i love your girls still writing in cursive. I need my girls to practice calligraphy LOTS more.
Where did you get those books?
My oldest is 5 and going to a Spanish immersion school for kindergarten, planning on getting her out next year(lets hope had mastered Spanish by then) and stay home and continue with homeschooling as planned.
I am going to need them for that.
Thank you!!!
I would love to send my girls to a Spanish immersion school, but the closest one is two hours away! If it were nearby, I might send them rather than homeschool.
My first language is Spanish so i am planning on homeschooling in Spanish.
My husband was homeschool as well as his 5 older siblings so that is something we want to keep and continue with.
Our Spanish Immersion school is about 15 minutes from my home but sadly most Spanish speaking people here in Grand Rapids, Michigan are Mexicans and most likely “illegals” so therefore, a big percentage of them are below poverty line which makes the school and neighbourhood a bit dangerous at times. This is a public school.
I wish i had the money for a private immersion school but i think it would be unfair for my children to mix with such a big Caucasian crowd that have a different lifestyle from us.
So hard to decide what is best for your children at times. so complicated. *big sigh*
Anyway, where did you get those practice book for cursive?
i would love for my girls to learn to write like their mama does.
I am just too lazy to trace them myself. 🙂
Awesome, cursive! It’s a lost art. I applaud you for homeschooling your crew!
I spy classical conversations!
christy miller, yessssssssssssss!!!!!!
Oh man, Todd was such a dreamboat!
he was! 😉
BELA SAYS: ” I am amazed they are already writting cursive…I am in third grade and I am not good at it! “
Wow!! This looks like a more of a second grade curriculum to me! amazing!! I won’t be teaching script until next year since I am still developing the penmanship in my 1st grader in print (which he writes so much nicer than I did at that age). The fungi and all that plant stuff seems so intense too. You are amazing. Love the Bob books.
Your reading habits remind me a bit of what I had, although I have dyslexia and struggled with it a lot and so I skimmed pages often because my eyes kept going to the same paragraphs and sentences after reading them already and it was not fun, so I pretended to make people believe I was a great reader and even won the reading contests. . but didn’t read every page at all. I hated it. Now I read constantly and had to train myself how to overcome bits of my dyslexia.
Beautiful job in how you teach. I feel like a horrible teacher now. haha. Come teach me.
I am sure you are a fantastic teacher! And we just use different curriculums and that is all!
I lovedddd R.L. Stine growing up. I just picked up his new adult novel too!!! You should check it out. 🙂
oh! new novel?! is it any good?
So far, it’s okay. I hope it gets better, but I’m just at the very beginning! 🙂

I would love to know what you are using for cursive.
CC in the house!!
I’d love to know what cursive book that is as well! 🙂 We do cursive at a young age as well, but that workbook looks like a great tool!
Hey, some fellow CC people! I started following your blog because of crafting/sewing, but now because of CC, I feel like we’re kindred spirits. I am a CC director in WA.
Oh man, Christy MIller! I loved reading those books when i was a teenager!
I realize I am super late to the party on this one but I have to say how much I LOVED The Christy Miller series. I actually only read a few, and then I found the Sierra Jensen series, (same author) and read all of those! Good times!
