Goldilocks, also known as Truelilocks, turned three and celebrated with her friends the three bears, also known as Papi, Mommy, and Brave. The three bears surprised her with a forest-garden-like picnic…
There were Goldilocks-sized cupcakes, made from a dairy & egg free recipe (thanks to suggestions from y’all) and bear bodies to build your own bear for each little girl (just True & Brave). They stuffed them, sewed little faces (with a plastic needle), and made them a heart…
Bear hats were also made…
Of course, there had to be story telling with some quickly made finger puppets that Papi requested…
Then, we all chowed down on some porridge of sorts…
I think the cupcakes turned out great, considering they lacked eggs and milk. Truelilocks was so excited to try her first real dessert, especially cupcakes. She took one bite and then spit it out. I guess Truelilocks ain’t a fan of sweets. I tried… she really is her father’s daughter.
It was a simple celebration with just the four of us. Perfect for my Truelilocks. We wanted it to be all about her and what she liked to do. I think it was just that! Believe it or not, I have more pictures of our celebration here. It really was such a fun, lighthearted evening that was absolutely whimsical!Β
In the midst of our little “party” True said, “I am so excited about my birthday!”Β
We are too my little love, we are too.Β I am so thankful to God for giving her to us. I can hardly believe she is no longer a baby, but our little girl.
Happy birthday to our Truelilocks! The three bears love you very much…
Happy Birthday, True!
I love love love the way you tell stories with photos, it all looked so sweet!
Our sweet girl turned 4 last week, and we opted for a similar family only affair, and there was something so magical and intimate about it.
Happy, happy birthday again, Truelilocks!
Happy birthday to your sweet 3 year old! My oldest will be 3 in just a few weeks and I’m in planning mode for her party. I love, love, love everything about this party: her dress, the make-your-own bear, the finger puppets. Looks like so much fun! Thanks for sharing!
hi, don’t know how i got to your blog but i’ve been lurking a while. what a wonderful birthday party for such a special girl. you have a beautiful family!
So sweet and pretty! I love the idea of a small party.
Wow. Darling, just darling. Great ideas.
That is such a lovely party. I should start thinking about what to do for my four year old in July. I think it will probably have something to do with robots and dinosaurs.
Ugh your family is so sickeningly beautiful! Hahaha…mixed babies are the prettiest π It may be a biased opinion though since I have one of my own π
Happy Birthday to True!
What a perfect celebration. I love her Truelilocks dress
Happy Birthday!
I love it! Recently I made the Three Little Pigs finger puppets (and posted about it. It was about two weeks ago, I think).
Can you tell me more about your build a bear? I love the idea of doing it ourselves. What fabric…was there a pattern? Very nice ideas.
This was the sweetest story. The way you mix in classic children’s stories to your family events is really fun and amazing. Truelilock’s dress is awesome. And I love how Brave devoured her cupcake. Happy Happy Birthday True!
That dress is adorable. I’m assuming you made it. What a fun bday!!
SOOOO cute Ruby Ellen! Just adorable. Beautiful shots too. Looks like True had a wonderfully special b-day :)!
Hands down the most special birthday party idea I’ve ever heard of. The details and the thought you put into this are inspiring me to get on it with my son’s third birthday in July.
Your love for your family is so evident in the way you make everyday things extra special and special things absolutely extraordinary. Thanks for sharing it! And birthday wishes to the beautiful True!
What a wonderful mom! I love your party idea. So thoughtful. I am featuring great children’s parties on my blog (www.Craftpad.com) and would love to include your Goldilocks and the Three Bears idea. Thanks!

HAPPY THIRD BIRTHDAY TRUELILOCKS!!
This is just about the cutest and loveliest thing I’ve seen! Great job.
oh my gosh that is sooo cute!! happy bday 3rd b-day to True!
Brilliant! It is so encouraging to see a family doing fun fairy tales with their daughters!
I love their names!
I love this small, intimate party! We’re gearing up for DD’s 2nd birthday which will be preceded by her new sister’s arrival a month before so I’m in favor a similar family only gathering. I feel like there will be plenty of time to gather friends and do big shindigs. At this age, the littlest things make them burst with happiness. Thanks for sharing!
you are the genius of parties! i love all the little details of the celebration.
my fiona is also three and it is a little bittersweet to me to see that she is no longer a baby.
happy birthday, true! may you have a year full of smiles!
I LOVE this little party! And on an ironic note, I too am planning a party for a soon-to-be-three-year-old. His name is Ansel and just this morning, my brain hatched a Hansel and Gretal theme party. I asked his five-year-old brother if he would dress as Gretal. I’m sure you can imagine his reaction! Yay for fairytales! And parties! And cupcakes!
This is just too sweet!
I followed Sarah Jane’s blog to your Messy Mondays once and now I’m hooked! You have the best ideas! This whole party idea is super and would be perfect for Cookie Magazine, don’t you think? I love that you had such a fairy tale time just the four of you. I just found your flickr too. Thanks for sharing!
What a darling little party table! I love the bears they got to finish making. You are very creative!
super cute! so glad to see our cupcake toppers and a little sweetness to your party!

Wow! I just came over from O’Rachews blog…she wrote about you in her last post so I thought I would come check it out. I’m so glad I did. What a wonderful birthday party you set up for your daughter…the way you told the story was precious. And those little bears you all made were adorable. What a very talented mommy you are.
This is SO incredibly sweet & lovely! I hope I can do the same [with my future child] one day! What an inspiration π

thank you everyone!
now to answer some questions:
1. The build-a-bear is made from a pattern that I created. I used linen for our bears and little pieces of vintage reproduction fabric for the ears and pocket. I really wanted a natural, raw feel to it. No perfection necessary.
2. I used the Divvies Chocolate cupcake recipe from Martha that some of you suggested. Thank you! I will be trying Cherry brook (is that what is called) box goodies this weekend.
3. I got my cupcake liners and flower toppers from layercakeshop.etsy.com. I contacted them last minute and they speedily got it to me. perfect for this occasion!!!
4. i would love to plan birthdays regularly. as long as the guest list stays small like this one. this one was perfect! though, of course, grandparents will be coming into town, thus we will have a slightly larger celebration this saturday. but it will still be simple, theme-less and just good old time with family! brave turns two in August. I can’t wait to think of something special for her.
5. Maybe I will do a tutorial on the bear is some are interested. I think this is much better than going to build-a-bear at the mall. no offense… π
nice to meet lots of you who came out (or said hi) for the first time!!!
This one of the most creative birthday parties I’ve ever seen! Your girls are adorable!
oh my gosh i FORGOT! HAPPY B-DAY!
So gorgeus!
This was a gorgeous, loving and inspiring celebration of your lucky three year old. I’m so happy to have been “invited” via The Crafty Crow”. Happy Birthday Truelilocks!
Happy Birthday to True. The pictures of her party are SO sweet! Every little detail is just wonderful. I immediately called my mom and asked, “Did you see cakies today?” Then we proceeded to gush about how creative you are and what a sweet family you have. Thanks for sharing your lovely memories with all of us.

Everything looked fantastic — though I’m learning that is not a surprise when it comes to things you do.
Love the stuff your own bear activity you did with the girls. I may have to go and get a plastic needle for Katie!
