huzzah!

stop and smell the rosesDue to all the flowers we picked for our fall potluck, we had lots of fresh flowers in the house this week. We have really been stopping to smell the roses a whole lot. They smell so good! When the girls see me sniffing one, each one will say, “I wanna smell! I wanna smell!” The tallest rose on the right smells the absolute best. I keep making Ben smell it and I tell him that I need a perfume that smells like this. I’m not really a perfume gal, but lately I’ve gone out after I’ve done some cooking and have thought, “Oh man, I need perfume because I smell like food.” Maybe it’s time to start searching for a good one. I remember my mom buying perfume and buying cologne for my dad, but Ben and I have never been into that stuff. Though after getting high on my roses, I would really like to find a scent similar to them. I’ve also got a sensitive nose though, so the wrong scent can also give me a headache. Anyone have a good light scent to recommend?

This week’s learned, links, and thankfulness…

My sinus infection is back. Ugh. But I’m thankful for medicines and doctors that help make things better.

Soul is swimming on her own now. Yay! We’re still going strong with swim classes (twice a week) and have no plans to stop in the winter. By summer, they should be pros!

We got our new sink and faucet in! So excited!!! Ours has been broken since January and it’s so nice to have one that works again.

I want to make a healthy version of this recipe.

I’m dying over how gorgeous these bags are.

I’m so excited about thanksgiving and hanging out with family.

My sister is just awesome. I’m still in disbelief she will be leaving us for 11 months (when she comes back True will be 9!), but I just know God is going to use her, and I can’t wait to hear her stories.

I was so encouraged by my friend Frances’ blog post. My heart needed that.

Have a good weekend friends! Cleaning bathrooms are on my agenda this weekend, what’s on yours?

I get headaches from perfume also. My favorite perfume is Lauren, by Ralph Lauren. Its the one that is a burgundy color with a gold top. I’m 44 now and I’ve worn Lauren since I was 16! I also like Cashmere Mist by Donna Karan. The perfumes are nothing alike. I also have Youth Dew by Estee Lauder that I occasionally wear. My Grandmother wore it and sometimes I’ll just spray it to remind me of her. It instantly brings me back to my childhood. You might try something your mom wears or your Grandma. Its funny how a smell can take you back to a memory.

    Love your blog.

Rosewater is light and natural. I like it top.
But if you want something a bit more lasting, i highly recommend stella by stella mccartney.
It smells like rose petals, not too powerfull and is just really lovely. I have a tine roll on perfume from sephora that has lasted ages.

I was also going to suggest Stella to you Rubyellen! My huzz doesn’t prefer most perfumes but Stella he loves. it is very fresh and not overwhelming at all. It is supposed to capture the difference of the rose and amber and it does so beautifully. Rose and amber are so very different but they compliment each other perfectly. I also recommend getting the little rollerball (Sephora for around $20) because I only use a little bit each day and it lasts me forever and is very portable.

Pink! by Victoria’s Secret is nice and light. My go-to is Light Blue by Dolce & Gabanna, which is actually a men’s cologne, but it smells so good.

My favorite non-perfume scent is Basic Instinct by Slumber Parties (yeah, THAT company) the smell adapts to your body chemistry and is never ever over-powering.

I cannot go out without perfume, since I was 15 I’ve worn it every day and if I don’t it feels like I’m without something fundamental – like when you forget deoderant or if you didn’t brush your teeth. Try the range of Jo Malone fragrances. They are all natural smelling, and light so they fade on your skin. My favourites are lime basil and mandarine and Ginger and Nutmeg. They do a rose fragrance but I’m not familiar with it. They’re not cheap, but so worth it.

I wear perfume, but it has to be the right one for the right occasion. I like softer, sublter scents, which happens to be what my husband prefers. I only have a couple, but they are fun. I hope you find the perfect rose scent for you!

I love perfume, but feel torn about it because it’s not natural and I otherwise make every single body product we use. But I have quite a collection and LOVE it! My compromise is spraying on my clothes and not my body, though it’s not quite the same. Anyway, I HIGHLY recommend Elizabethan Rose by Penhaligons. It is a fantastic company, and that perfume is the most fresh and beautiful and realistic rose scent ever – not heavy and fake. You could also just get a bottle of rose essential oil and use it sparingly or sprayed with water! Another favorite light scent is Eclat by Lanvin. Before my husband got it for me, I would find a different perfume store in the mall every week when I went to get groceries, spray my wrist, and sniff it the rest of the day! I was embarrassed to go to the same store every time 😉
