THESE DAYS

March 21, 2012

at homeat homeat home
Days go so fast. Between all the diaper changes, feeding, cleaning, schooling, and playing and then repeating those things again and again, it all goes really fast. I need to remind myself to take deep breaths and pray more. Definitely pray more.
Today, we went to the local library. Honestly, we haven’t been in a few years. The last time was when I used to go to story time when I just had two little babes named Brave and True. Those babes are now little girls and my new two babes are Soul and Glow. Good thing we have tons of books at home that keep us pretty occupied, but today reminded me how much I really do love libraries and I should make it a habit to take them once every two week. It will be a new goal.
Each little one picked out a book and I picked out two for myself. I love reading! I describe it as watching a movie in my mind. I love watching movies in my mind! Now, I just picked two random books in the new release section and really picked it based on the cover. Yes, I really judge a book by its cover! It looked simple and mysterious and I am all about mysteries. Seriously. Take those over romance any day! Just like I would rather watch a movie with explosions, car chases, and bad guys than a chick flick. I am kinda random that way.
Other random things about me… I loved Elvis when I was a kid and swore he was still alive somewhere, I am allergic to crayola crayons, and I slept in my parents room (along with my three other siblings) until I was 12 and all because I was afraid of the dark. No joke. My parents even put a mattress on the floor for us kids to sleep. They were total attachment parenting!
The only reason I started sleeping in my room was because I got in a big fight with my mom and didn’t want to see her. After that, I kinda liked it and I guess I wasn’t as scared anymore and so I just stayed in my room.
Today will be another day that will zoom on by, but I looking forward to our quiet reading time because I have a couple of books to conquer. What books have you read lately? I want to add more to my reading list.

FLOWER PICKINGS

March 14, 2012

Flowers are blooming again, which means every time the girls go outside, they are out picking them. We have little flowers, petals, and rocks strewn all over the carpet, all the time and they keep gifting me tiny bouquets. It gets kinda messy when their collections get quite large, but it’s cute nonetheless. I like watching them pick the flowers outside. It reminds me of a funny story when I was a little girl…
I was in first grade and it was recess. My friends and I were behind the bushes picking flowers and leaves. The other girls were doing the talking and I was just listening. I used to be kinda shy back then, kinda like True, but not as extreme. They were talking about catching their parents doing you know what. Well, I had never heard of this stuff before, so I was kind of surprised. Mind you, this is just first grade and I was just six years old. There weren’t details, but they just talked about catching their parents, yada yada…
Well, fast forward a few days later when I am home watching a movie with my parents and a kissing scene comes on… they immediately cover my head with a pillow and then I blurt out, “Why?!! Cause they’re having sex?!!” My parents were dumbfounded. They turned off the movie and we had a little talk.
All this to say… I wonder what my girls are talking about when they’re picking flowers. I am pretty sure it is just all about She-ra and My Little Pony. At least, I hope.

Besides being a bridesmaid, I also did the flowers for my friend’s wedding this past weekend. I love doing flowers and sometimes miss doing them for weddings, but it is a lot of work. This job was especially fun though because the bride had amassed vintage tins and they were all so uniquely pretty. I secretly wanted to sneak one and keep it to my self. Which one from the tins above is your favorite?

MODCLOTH’S COLOR YOURSELF LUCKY CONTEST

March 12, 2012

a yellow dress
Do you love color? I do! And to have a bit of some St. Patty’s Day fun, Modcloth asked me, along with 5 other lovely ladies, to style a pretty dress from one color of the rainbow. I chose yellow and I am totally in love with it!
Once I got my pretty yellow dress, I knew it would go perfect with this vintage blazer Ben had bought for me so long ago when we were dating. It is such a bold blazer and doesn’t get much use, but it went perfect with the dress. I also opted to switch out the fabric belt for a brown one. I think it gives it a nice contrast. What do you think?

Today might just be your lucky day because Modcloth is having a fabulous contest and giving away a “pot of gold” in the form of a $50 gift certificate! All you have to do is sign in with your modcloth account, make your own rainbow colored wish list, and share it. Easy and fun right?!! Get more details here. Also, be sure to see the other 5 ladies and their color of choice over here too!
Do you like wearing color or are you more into neutrals?

PREPPING FOR FILMING

March 7, 2012

First thank you all for your encouragement regarding my video collaboration with Levi’s®. We filmed back in January and I have been so giddy that I got to be part of something so fun. When I first saw it, I must admit that I hid my head under the covers because it is really strange to listen to yourself. Really, it is kinda weird. Then all the butt shots… that part is kinda awkward too. Good thing, I like the way my Levi’s® make that area look. *wink*
Remedy Editorial did such a good job piecing it all together. Nothing was scripted or rehearsed, but they would just have me talk on the spot and I was so nervous! Ben and I both didn’t really get sleep the night before because of all the nerves and anxiety that was floating around.
Though I must admit, the prep that went into getting some parts of the house ready was kinda stressful. Particularly cleaning out my closet! Most of my closet was filled with boxes that hadn’t been opened since I got married (7 years ago) and there was tons of junk! I had tons of clothes that I was hoarding because I swore after I had the baby (my first baby), I would wear it again. Well, I kept having baby after baby and either those things didn’t fit anymore or are really not cool.
before & after
It took a whole weekend to get things sorted out. It felt like it was never going to end, but now my closet is nice and organized (with a growing pile of mess on the floor), and I got rid of a whole lot of junk. It was a really good feeling. So if you think that I have an insanely organized closet all the time, think again. It only got organized because I knew they were going to film in it. If it weren’t for that, it would still be such a horrendous mess.
I am a neat freak, but I pretty much keep all the areas that guests see clean, but if it isn’t something they necessarily see, well, you betcha it is probably messy! Don’t even try to go into our spare room. It is a horrendous catch all room!
Thanks again friends for being so great! And check back later because I have a fun DIY to share, and if you haven’t seen the cool Levi’s® video I got to work on, see it here.
p.s. totally unrelated, but this little puppy of my sister’s is so cute. you have got to watch this video!
