We had some friends come over, made some homemade burgers, drank some yummy wine, indulged in peaches and ice cream, and enjoyed the beginning of our summer nights.
My favorite part is when the sun went down and I could turn on the canopy of lights we had over head. It is all so very pretty and perfect! Now on my shopping list is a very long vintage farm table… I think it would be perfect for our outside dining area.
Oh Summer… I dislike your heat during the day, but I love your nice and perfectly cool evenings at night! What do you like to eat or do for your summer nights outside?
I feel the same way about summer. I think I'm a little nocturnal. You won't see me out in the heat during the day, but oh the cool nights and sitting under the stars is heaven. I love your lights!
Ha! Great minds think alike..I am also on the lookout for a long farm table for my back patio….
how perfect!!
Love your light canopy!!
I love the lights! I have some but still trying to figure out a way to hang them on my balcony (in an apartment). What kind of burgers did you all make?
mmm, peaches and ice cream. those lights are so beautiful, too!
that looks & sounds perfect!!
xoxo
shish kebabs (or is it kabobs?) are my favorite summer dinner- marinated chicken, fresh pineapple, peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms all grilled to perfection… mmm, delish!
i love all your lights- makes everything look magical!
oooh i always am in awe of your photos – esp. those string of lights. lovelovelove it!
Watermelon!
PS: I adore the lights and those burgers and fries look quite tasty π
Avocado anything……dip, on a burger, with cheese, sliced plain or with mango.
Sounds like a lovely night.
we just hung some lights like that in our backyard! summer nights are just so magical π
fantasy salad with a bit of everything that's tasty and colorful. long table summer nights are what life is all about π
Yes, LOVE the lights, Rubyellen. I sure do wish summer would come to stay here in Portland so that we could have such lovely nights!
i am totally jealous. Portland, Oregon could learn a thing or two about summer behavior. like that the sun should be out warming shoulders and grey skies should disappear to the netherlands.
Uh. I live in Northern AK. We have 24 hours of sunlight until August. So, we sit outside and watch the kids play in our dirt yards. (Since only a few people have grass) P.S. we still have snow.
That's about it. π
I might have a small tip for you, about the long vintage table..
We made our own one with wood they used in constructions. I don't realy know the English word for it, we call it “steigerplanken”. Using this wood, the table looks very vintage and sooo pretty! We're also going to make a closet with it.
If you want a preview, just mail me: [email protected]

Hooray for summer! I'm in love with the fairy lights π I like burgers and strawberries with cream!
twolovies- i sauteed some onions and garlic, then kneaded them into some ground turkey along with shredded cheese and paprika and then formed them into round patties… yum!
you all have great food suggestions for our summers outside… they are all making me hungry right now!
paula kathlyn- that SOUL sign is lovely… i so want to go!
i am glad y'all like the lights. i think it makes everything look magical!
I love tomato, basil and mozzarella salads all summer long! Or another favorite is grilled peaches with marinated chicken breasts.

it wasn't night, but my family just had a picnic in our backyard with a quilt on the grass & vegan pasta salad : )
there is an awesome picnic table made out of salvaged wood in Wary Meyers' book Tossed and Found. And there are plans for it too! You can kind of see it here:

oh and there is a picture of it on the sidebar of their blog too. It's classy and crazy cheap!
LOVE these lights! It looks like such a fun little summer dinner party! It makes me want to buy a house, just so I can get a picnic table and canopy lights!
