I’m usually done with all my Christmas shopping by now, but I haven’t even started. On the bright side, we have our Christmas tree up already!
Let’s start with the tree base … Ben drilled a hole into an old tree stump to use. We inserted the center pole into the tree stump instead of using the base that it came with. Last year, I used a crocheted bedspread as the skirt, now I don’t even need one because we have a pretty tree stump. We used it before here, but since this tree is much larger, we had to drill a larger hole to fit this 7.5 foot tall tree.
I wanted to go a little bit fancier this year with our tree, so I picked up a bunch of sparkly and glittery ornaments. Once we got them up, it didn’t feel right. It was too much for us. We simplified everything back down to our wooden and straw ornaments. Though, we did pick up more wooden ornaments to add on. To finish it off, we added some tapered candles onto the tree. Now, it feels just right. This is my “holidays” Pinterest board, and from that you can tell we prefer simpler decorating for Christmas.
Supplies for this project were provided as part of the Michaels Makers Series. From now until November 14, you can get FREE shipping on all Christmas trees that are 6ft or taller on Michaels.com! You can also check out some of Michaels’ ornament projects and tutorials available here.
My rule is no Christmas stuff till after Thanksgiving! I feel like there’s always a rush to get to the next holiday already. But your decorations do look gorgeous. 🙂
I agree. We there is definitely a rush these days.
If I had my tree up for 2 months, I would get so tired of it. I like to celebrate each holiday individually. To early for Christmas decorations (but thats just my opinion) to each their own!!! Your tree is beautiful.
I totally understand your feeling! We don’t officially start turning on the tree lights until after Thanksgiving. I have an aunt and uncle who go all out for Christmas and have several beautifully decorated trees in their home. They put up their decorations in the beginning of October so they can enjoy the fruits of their labor for longer than just a month. Once Christmas is over though, it comes down. My parents on the other hand, have been putting up their tree later and later each year (very close to Christmas), but they don’t take it down until after Valentine’s Day. Like you said, to each their own! As part of the Michaels Makers bloggers, they assign us the date to have our tree shared, so thus Nov. 2nd it was! Normally, we wouldn’t get our tree up until Thanksgiving weekend, but all my Christmas shopping is typically done by now.
I think you decorations are wonderful and I love that stump! In my family we put a tree up maybe a week before christmas but all the other thing like candles and lights (living in a pretty dark country) and smaller decorations in november. In Sweden we celebrate Lucia and light the four candles of Advent so it is a lot of christmasy feelings even without the tree 🙂 I can totally understand why people get so emotional about how other people choose to celebrate the holidays. But the fact that everyone is different is what makes the world so wonderful!
I like all midcentury ornaments and decorations. I’ve found a bunch of “new” vintage items and though I’m always a tree up the Sunday after thanksgiving person I’ve kinda been wanting them up for longer this year! Man, now I just might have to! Love your straw ornaments, I’m Polish and we have lots of them too.☺
Where did you buy the straw ornaments? They are very Scandanavian. They sell ornaments just like that in Denmark, but I would love to find more here!

I haven’t even purchased my Christmas Tree yet, let alone put it up – duh! – but it makes me excited to see this. Christmas is approaching fast.
And don’t worry, I haven’t began my Christmas shopping yet either. I’m totally with you on that one.
I need the girls to write down their lists!
