huzzah!

August 12, 2017

This week’s learned, links, and thankfulness…

Tried out this recipe and it’s perfect for summer nights. Of course, served alongside a glass of wine.

Thankful for our Thursday night neighborhood dinners. It’s such a blessing to get to know our neighbors.

Love the Depop app. You can find vintage and modern clothes that people resell. Got a great deal on a pair of vintage, high waisted wide legs!

More bolga hats in stock over at WOVENFOLK.

Um… I want coconut matcha ice cream!

Praise God my mom is okay after her blood pressure went over 200! Life is such a vapor and things like that remind us how fragile life really is, even though sometimes we forget and tend to live only for the here and now.

Oh man! God’s been giving us life and marriage trials. Broken computers, almost broken garage door, and other things like that are stressors that have been testing my faith and hope. Tbh, I’m not really passing these trials well nor counting them joy.

These pink block heel pumps are adorable, and these faux fur mules are super funky.

My eczema has been acting up since the winter and won’t go away. Anyone have any natural remedies to suggest?

I love this peanut butter powder. I put 1 tablespoon in my daily morning protein drink.

Flax linen lovers… get this vintage, linen top from Ms. Tips. This jacket is also perfect for fall.

The girls plan on selling some treats at our cul-de-sac garage sale today, and tomorrow we celebrate my mom’s birthday! Hope your weekend is just as fun and full!

Don’t know if you count this as natural but have you ever tried a bleach bath? We did it with our son when he was little because he had terrible eczema that wouldn’t go away. When I first heard about it I thought it sounded crazy but after reading about it we gave it a try and it worked! Here’s one link that talks about it. http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/eczema/expert-answers/eczema-bleach-bath/faq-20058413 We also used oatmeal baths a lot too. Our doctor always had us slather on aquaphor constantly to put a barrier over it and keep it hydrated. We’d also mix hydrocortisone cream and a triple antibiotic cream in our palm and then put that on too. Hope you find something that works since eczema is so terrible.

Hi! My daughter has fought with eczema for 10 years. We’ve seen that eggs and milk sometimes trigger it. Also stress and extreme heat (our June visit to the Grand Canyon was miserable). We have tried almost everything on the market. I even went into Target one day and bought every product that mentioned eczema. I am super careful about the products that she comes in contact with, inside and out. Super gentle clothes detergent and regular vinegar as a fabric softener. I make all of her creams and salves myself. All organic. Shea butter, olive oil, beeswax, Vitamin E drops and a fee lavender oil drops for a thicker salve. I substitute coconut oil for olive oil to make creams. I have even whipped it once for a body butter. This is the only thing that doesn’t burn her sores, open or not. She scratches horribly at night and wears cotton gloves. The only product on the market she can use in a pinch is from Target. Shea Moisture Raw Shea Camomile and Argan oil Baby Lotion. From the baby section in a yellowish tube. But it can burn her open sores a bit. The other thing is swimming pools. We have seen that one or two visits to a public pool (usually they have more chlorine in them than private pools) and her skin calms down and it can be a dramatic remedy.
Rachel Wolf has a wonderfully in depth series about eczema. Love it! http://lusaorganics.typepad.com/clean/2013/04/eczema.html

Good luck to you! It is a frustrating battle.

How fun to have regular neighborhood dinners! How does it work? Does everybody just bring what they want ( potluck) or is it more structured than that?

    • Rubyellen says:

Yes, it’s just like that! We live on a cul-de-sac, so it’s easy to set up shop there. We bring out tables and chairs every Thursday night, right in front of our house, and everyone, whoever is able to make it, brings a dish to share. It’s really cool and such a blessing! The kids all love it and run around and play together.

My son has really bad eczema. We just started using Blue Yarrow oil from primallypure.com and it is is really helping it to heal.

  • Elizabeth says:

Try a probiotic moisturizer- my terrible eczema disappeared in two days!

  • Morgan says:

Dr. Kang formulas is the ONLY thing that has ever helped my eczema and I totally swear by it. I heard about it through Weston-Price and it works SO well! http://www.drkangformulas.com/EACHFORMULA/49.htm

Even though the reviews said it was a small package I was shocked at how tiny it was. You only need a small amount, though, and it cleared up within a few days or a week (after having it flare up for months).

    • Rubyellen says:

WAH! It’s out of stock. I will keep checking. Was reading more about it on Weston Price today. Thank you for the suggestion.

Eczema is mist often food related. Try eliminating dairy for a time as it is often the culprit. Next gluten which can be too.

My doctor just prescribed eucrissa, it doesn’t have a steroid in it, so its safe for eye area. I use Cerave, ointment and balm. I know they are not natural, but mine gets bad on my eyelids.

  • Candice says:

Eczema can often be triggered by food. Try an elimination diet- no dairy, gluten, nuts, nightshades etc. Good luck!

This lotion has changed my life: Aveeno Eczema Therapy, moisturizing cream or baby formula(I order from iHerb.com)
I suffered from terrible cracking and bleeding on my hands and fingers and this has completely cured it. We live in Japan where there are no dishwashers so I am constantly washing dishes and doing chores, using my hands.
It also worked on my adopted son. When he came to our home(age 1 1/2, now 3 1/2) his grandmother was using prescribed steroid creams on his body because his skin was so bad. I started to order the Aveeno Eczema Therapy for Babies cream, stopped giving him baths and it changed both of our lives. He has no problems and we never take him to the doctor. Also, not sure if you take baths but if you do you should stop that first and see if your skin clears up. I also have Filipino blood and steam is a no no for me. Blessings and love to you, Rubyellen!

  • I used to get excema pretty badly and lots of adult acne and have been using One Love Organics products (Vitamin B and the Easy Does It wash) that help so much for me. I also use a green tea toner from The Body Shop and a Korean moisturizer with aloe and propolis (a company called Benton). Every single item is natural and has helped improve my face completely. I am so thankful. I used to like using just one item to do the trick to my face, but they never worked while these do every time.

I am glad your mom is okay. That is really scary and so high to have her blood pressure that way.
