Okay, so it isn’t my first cookbook, as I’ve had one cookbook given to me in the past, but all our other cookbooks are Ben’s. Either he purchased it or we gifted it to him because it was on his wish list. He was the main chef in this house up until a year ago when I started taking the reins and meal planning, and I started doing the cooking myself. So this It’s All Good cookbook by Gwyneth Paltrow is the first ever cookbook I bought for myself! Hip hip, hooray! It’s a milestone for me.
My friend Steph recommended it and she told us there was a recipe to make our own Sriracha sauce and that pretty much sold me, and I ordered it. Just at first glance, based on the pictures, I loved it. I love the simplicity of the design. Next, I started diving into the recipes and the combos for the dishes had me smitten even more. Now, all the recipes don’t have a picture of the finished dish, which is slightly disappointing because I think food pictures are a big deal, but I’ll survive. Maybe next time Ms. Paltrow will add more pictures! I’m definitely going to try to incorporate at least one dish into next week’s meal plan.
I haven’t had time to read the book cover to cover, so I know there’s a lot more information in there about diet and allergies, but overall just based on the recipes and pictures, I like it. Now, I hope it all tastes as good as it looks! Do you have a favorite cookbook? I’d love to hear other recommendations!
For now my favorite cookbook is by Rachel Khoo’s Little Paris Kitchen. Her recipes are soooo simple and easy to follow. And I think all 120 recipes have pictures 🙂 Not only the book is super cute (all illustrations are drawn by her)… Also, she had a TV Cooking show (6 episodes). It’s on youtube 🙂
I saw her on Doctor Oz and always wanted this book. Just because I have so many sensitivities to food. If you give it the two thumbs up.. I will look into getting it now!
I don’t have a good cook book. I plan to make my own, my bridal shower everyone wrote down a recipe. I want to finally consist of all my yummy foods into one!
My favourite is Jamie’s America because there’s such a huge variety of recipes and, not being American, I didn’t know all that many of them. The only downside is that they sometimes have too many ingredients and mostly I don’t wanna shop I just wanna cook!
I’ve seen this cookbook come through our library [I work with youth at a public library] and have wanted to check it out!! There’s one I absolutely fell in love with: the River Cottage Family Cookbook. Beautiful pictures and great recipes – the book overall is just lovely! 🙂 Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Ruby!
Simple Food by Alice Waters is my go-to favorite cookbook. I especially love the vegetable section. There aren’t a lot of pictures, but this book has taught me how to cook healthy, fresh food for my family. Before I got it, I was lost in the kitchen. It has transformed our eating habits for the better!
We went to her restaurant when we were in SF a couple months ago and all the food was amazing. I should definitely check out her cookbook!
I receive her weekly Goop emails and I just love ALL of her recipes!

I have 3 new favorites: Smitten Kitchen, Joy the Baker, and Bread and Wine (Shauna Niequist–a book/cookbook combo)–all so great!
I just ordered the Weelicious cookbook and I love it! Great recipes and pictures and good information about helping your kids to become better/more adventurous eaters — I love how she incorporates veggies into so many recipes but isn’t ‘hiding’ them. I was sold on the cookbook after borrowing it from the library and realized that I would love to try nearly every recipe in there (and my husband thought it was a good one after he saw so many salmon recipes in it! ha!).
OK. I was on the fence about this book, but you have a pretty discerning eye so I might just make the leap to buy it!
you convinced me; new on the wish list!
Jamie Oliver’s 30 minute meals! My first ‘real’ cookbook, and it’s GREAT! Also 15 minute meals for an everyday, healthier option. What I love about his 30 minute meals, other than the recipes, is the way it’s written. It’s an ENTIRE meal, so you don’t have to think about what to choose with what recipe. Also he tells you step by step how to multitask & get everything done! Crucial for my as I’m horrible at multitasking in the kitchen!
Really? 15 and 30 minute meals. I’m intrigued. I feel like I spend so much time cooking and cleaning for three meals a day that I would learn to be more efficient in my prepping.
GP has another cookbook that has lots of pictures, though I’m not sure one for each (which I totally agree is vital!) I think it’s called My father’s Daughter.
Happy Cooking!
Cheers!
Super Natural Everyday by Heidi Swanson is my favorite cookbook HANDSDOWN! It’s full of vegetarian recipes that are so yum! Her baked oatmeal might be my all time favorite and most cooked recipe. Sprouted Kitchen’s cookbook is also a winner. Also, just purchased Jersualem: A Cookbook by Yotam Ottolenghi. It is breathtakingly beautiful and I can’t wait to start trying some of the recipes!
Oh Ben has that! I should look through it! Thanks for reminding me.
I have this book and her(first) other cookbook.
I have not been disappointed with either and I have made just about everything . This book in particular has menu plans in the back for family, detox , bodybuilder , etc. They are simple doable and delicious recipes…. you gotta try them.
I love her recipes! You’re going to love it!
We just got this book from the library and pretty much have every recipe flagged to make…I think we might just have to buy it:) Everything looks and sounds great! Have fun!
My favorite go to cookbooks are the everyday food by Martha Stewart. They are very easy and simple. Also a picture for every recipe. I need the picture. The latest one is called meatless. I love it because meatless is something I really want to do better at.
