FASHION PINS

March 28, 2018

I’m certainly no fashion blogger, but I do love fashion and getting dressed every day. I enjoy expressing myself through clothes. My style isn’t super funky, but I just know what I like, and I’ll always prefer vintage to new. I wanted to share a few styles I’ve pinned lately that are inspiring me. Clearly, I like long dresses and jumpsuits.

Pinterest has so much inspiration and my fave things to pin are fashion, decor, & food. Follow along with all my pins here.

WARDROBE CHALLENGE

February 28, 2018

Here’s the thing, I don’t know how to wear black shoes. I do black sandals and sneakers, but other types, I’m just unsure of how to match and pair it. So I’m challenging myself to a black shoe challenge for a week (maybe a month? and wear them 5 days out of the week). I picked up this vintage pair recently, and it’s so cute and the leather is so good, so it was hard to leave. I hesitated though because it’s black and I don’t know how to do black footwear, so I’m daring myself to go out of my comfort zone. Also, I want to go beyond black on black, which is is the only way I’m comfortable wearing black footwear.

Everyone tells me black is neutral, but it doesn’t feel like it to me. Various shades of brown shoes are my go-to (and other colors), but I need get over this fear of black. Anyone else have this weird thing with black shoes?

I dare you to try a new wardrobe challenge too! What’s hard for you to do? Wear jeans? Wear a dress? Wear a dress over jeans? Wear pink? Or maybe it’s hard to wear a red lip?! Let’s do a little experimenting together and share how this wardrobe challenge goes! I’d love to hear what’s hard for you and what you want to challenge yourself to wear. I’ll be back next week to share all my black shoe outfits.

MACRAME JUTE BAG

January 29, 2018

I had so much fun making this macrame bag from jute rope. The various knots and repetition is very therapeutic. I didn’t use a pattern for this (I did mark and draw it out for future re-creation) and I used about 6 knots total. I’m ready for a second, but this time with cotton rope and maybe with a dip in the indigo vat.

If you want to learn macrame, gather your friends and host a workshop! Send me an email at my cakies at gmail dot com, if you’re interested!

DENIM DRESS LOVE

January 16, 2018

When hunting for vintage, my eye gravitates to denim and linen dresses. This one was a recent find that fit perfectly, and the cut of it was unlike my other denim dresses, so I brought it home. Usually, I go for loose and oversized, but I love the way this one fits. And… it has two pockets! I love a dress with pockets. The only problem is when moving around a lot, which is normal when you have 4 kids, the bottom 2 buttons come undone. Though it still leaves it at a reasonable length, so I’m okay with that.

Also, I love my white tee, which is a vintage tee from Rawson Chicago. Typically, my go-to for basic tees is Everlane, but this one from Rawson is so good. I love the cut and fabric so much. So if you’re looking for some good basic tees, add Rawson Chicago to your go-to list too. The shop is stocked with all sorts of colors too (see here)!
