Last week the girls were outside playing and gathering flowers. They gathered lots of teeny daisies and had me make them crowns. They were real flowers, so they wilted and died rather quickly. I asked them again this week, if they wanted to get more flowers so I could make them another, True said, “No mommy. I want one that doesn’t die.” And that statement led to this project…
The result was lots of happy princesses running around our house!
First thank you all for your encouragement regarding my video collaboration with Levi’s®. We filmed back in January and I have been so giddy that I got to be part of something so fun. When I first saw it, I must admit that I hid my head under the covers because it is really strange to listen to yourself. Really, it is kinda weird. Then all the butt shots… that part is kinda awkward too. Good thing, I like the way my Levi’s® make that area look. *wink*
Remedy Editorial did such a good job piecing it all together. Nothing was scripted or rehearsed, but they would just have me talk on the spot and I was so nervous! Ben and I both didn’t really get sleep the night before because of all the nerves and anxiety that was floating around.
Though I must admit, the prep that went into getting some parts of the house ready was kinda stressful. Particularly cleaning out my closet! Most of my closet was filled with boxes that hadn’t been opened since I got married (7 years ago) and there was tons of junk! I had tons of clothes that I was hoarding because I swore after I had the baby (my first baby), I would wear it again. Well, I kept having baby after baby and either those things didn’t fit anymore or are really not cool.
It took a whole weekend to get things sorted out. It felt like it was never going to end, but now my closet is nice and organized (with a growing pile of mess on the floor), and I got rid of a whole lot of junk. It was a really good feeling. So if you think that I have an insanely organized closet all the time, think again. It only got organized because I knew they were going to film in it. If it weren’t for that, it would still be such a horrendous mess.
I am a neat freak, but I pretty much keep all the areas that guests see clean, but if it isn’t something they necessarily see, well, you betcha it is probably messy! Don’t even try to go into our spare room. It is a horrendous catch all room!
Thanks again friends for being so great! And check back later because I have a fun DIY to share, and if you haven’t seen the cool Levi’s® video I got to work on, see it here.
p.s. totally unrelated, but this little puppy of my sister’s is so cute. you have got to watch this video!
This series is brought to you by Levi’s® Curve ID. Find your custom fit at Levi’s® stores or Levi.com.
Wowzers! I am so excited and honored to be part of this Levi’s® Curve ID campaign and to finally be able to share with all of you. Though, some of you have already seen this little documentary floating about the internet as a commercial on Hulu or YouTube (some of you even found your way here because of it). It merges me, our family, crafting, fashion, and blogging all together in one. Now, you actually get to put a voice behind the writing…
I gotta say that the Levi’s® Curve ID quiz is the simplest ever. It really got it all right for me. Besides the length (because I am really short), my main problem is that gaping I experience at the back of my jeans. I don’t really like flashing all those behind me (I don’t think they like it either) when I sit, so when I got my curve figured out, and tried on the appropriate pair, problem solved! Seriously.
Also, going back to length, Levi’s® offers most their jeans in a shorter length, which worked well for me too. No alterations necessary. That is always a plus!
I love the Levi’s® Curve IDmotto of fitting for the shape, not the size. It makes sense, doesn’t it?! We all are so different and it just makes sense to have jeans catered to all our different shapes. It is a celebration of diversity. I think that’s kinda genius!
I got two pairs from Levi’s® for the shoot, but I really loved them so much, that I even bought my own pair in a straight leg. Just like I said in video, “I like all different types for all different occasions,” so I wanted to add a different style to my collection! If I am home, I usually like to wear skinnies or straight leg, but if I am going on a date with Ben, I love to throw on a pair of flares! Jeans are just so great cause they are easy to dress up and dress down.
I know, the most popular pant style right now are skinnies, and this is the pair I own, but I suggest trying out the straights and the flares too because they are equally as lovely and comfy!
So tell me, what kind of things do you look for in a good pair of jeans? I suggest giving the Levi’s® Curve ID quiz a shot and it may just work well for you… it did for me!
BTW- If you told my 16 year old self, who was so badly wanting a pair of Levi’s® but would only buy the less desirable colors because they were on sale, that one day I might be in a Levi’s® commercial that played on the internet, I probably would have peed in my pants from the excitement. Really. No joke. Thanks Levi’s®, I really do like you…
P.S. Special thanks to Scott Compton and Remedy Editorial for putting together a great video!!! They all put my family at such ease and made it feel comfortable to be in front of the camera. Remedy Editorial, I really like you guys too…
P.P.S. Levi’s® is offering 15% off your order using the coupon code: MYCAKIES at checkout. Offer expires at 11:59pm PST on Wednesday 3/21. Fantastic right?!!
Some of you may already know what this is regarding, but tomorrow I can officially share it here with you all. It was something fun and I was absolutely giddy that I was able to be part of it. Enjoy the sneak peek and tomorrow you will get to hear what I sound like!
All is well now and it seems as soon as we got home, the swelling finally started going down. It was our first trip to the E.R. with one of the girls and thankfully we were at my parents’ house when it happened, so we were able to leave the other girls with them and take Brave. It was one long day, but we are glad we got to spend a little alone time with our Bravey, even if it was one late night waiting around in the emergency room.
So Monday is starting off kinda slowly and sleepily for us…
Meet Rocky Bobo, my baby sister’s little baby! My girls have their first cousin. I tell them that Rocky Bobo is their cousin and they said no because he is a dog. So then we settled on dousin. Dog + cousin, get it?!! Sounds like dozen. The girls were instantly smitten and I am not a dog person (or a pet person) and I was instantly smitten as well. Rocky Bobo has slept on the big girls’ laps and got lots of cuddling. Good thing he likes to cuddle.
Soulie cried the moment she met him. Soul hates stuffed animals. Seriously. She didn’t even like Minnie Mouse at first, so we knew her first meeting with Rocky Bobo was going to be hilarious (for us) and that she would freak out. We got it on camera, just so you know. It is that funny (for us). Don’t worry, she is not emotionally scarred for life. She’ll laugh at it one day. By the end of the day, she did pet him twice. See, she’s fine.
The girls being so cute with him, made me want to get them a puppy. True even said she would take care of the poop. Somehow, I seriously doubt that seeing how it takes her 2 hours to clean her room in which I would have been done in 5 minutes. I told them when the whole house has wood floors, I will think about it. The key is… the whole house. That means every bit of flooring. I don’t think we will ever have the whole house in wood anytime soon, so I am pretty much safe. Until then, we will love Rocky Bobo just like he is our own, but good thing I don’t have to clean his poop, that’s my sister’s job!
– Glow is starting to get her legs under her and looks like crawling is coming soon.
– Soul must wear the same 2 skirts everyday. Yes, together.
– Ben is really a keeper. He surprised me with something fantastic this week. Dude really knows how to romance this girl!
– I have the world’s roughest hands. I am bad at moisturizing.
– Obsessed with Tumbleweeds glasses. No joke. One of a kind amazing! I need a pair of sunglasses, but not sure if I am cool enough to pull off these cool shades.
– This is important. When you blog, have integrity. Be real, be honest, and give credit when it is due.
– I need a phone. I have been phone-less for two weeks and don’t have a land line. I lost it and can’t find it and haven’t done a darn thing about it. My mom complains I don’t call her anymore and so does this gal.
– Got some vintage goodies coming in from this shop. So excited to get them!
– I like bloggers new way of responding to comments. Thank you blogger!
– In search for the perfect denim dress. Have any good suggestions?
– And still want these shoes. I think I am secretly hoping someone will just happily gift them to me as a “just because”. I know, I’m silly. And just so you know, I am a size 6. *wink*
– Random fact about me. I love action and suspense movies! I am guy when it comes to movies. Romance and comedies are last on my list. I just watch it when I am bored. Now, if you do romance with thrilling action and suspense, then I may just reconsider.
Tonight is movie night over here and mine and Ben’s movie better involve some car crashes and explosions! What are your plans?
I have a large growing pile of fabric scraps. I refuse to throw them away because I am sure they can be used for something. I have been seeing different types of interesting necklaces made of buttons, beads, and fabric. Then, I figured why not make one out of my scraps...
I think it made my white shirt a little less boring. This was so quick and easy to make.
How to make a recycled scraps necklace (which is very similar to the straps on my braided tablecloth bag):
1. Take your scrap fabric, I cut a .5''-1'' snip and tear the rest of the fabric down for a nice frayed edge. Used 3 different fabrics for each strand.
2. Take 3 of the torn pieces and tie the ends together with a rubber band.
3. Braid the 3 pieces together and tie ends together with rubber band when done.
4. Repeat steps 2 & 3 for more strands. Remember you can make the strands any length you want, if run out of fabric, just weave more into the braid.
5. Once all the strands you want are braided, gather one end of each strand together and straight stitch together with sewing machine. Repeat for the other ends of the strands. Snip off any excess.
6. Gather ends of the necklace and sew together (snip excess) or a ribbon can be sewn at the ends to be able to tie the necklace closed, but I just sewed both ends together.
7. Voila! A nice way to make use of all your lovely scraps.
Sorry if the directions get you a little lost, but it really is easy. I promise. Maybe I should put some in the shop. Please share any other good ideas you may have of things that can be made with scraps. I would love to hear (read) them!
