This week’s learned, links, and thankfulness…

Thankful we have two official school days left!

I started my painting adventures (I’m trying to do all of upstairs) and I’m about halfway done (follow me on instagram if you want to peek on my progress). I will be ecstatic when I’m done. Then, the new floors can go in. Woot! Woot!

If you’re in SoCal, or have plans to visit, be sure to check out the Long Beach Aquarium. For Cakies readers, you can get $10 off membership here.

We’ve been playing around with bed placement in True and Brave’s room. I like it like this (picture above), but Ben missed the openness of each bed in the corner. We are testing different ways out until one feels just right.

I want to try this recipe since we have finger limes growing in our garden.

Well, hello frozen s’mores!

I wouldn’t mind a few of these handira pillows on my bed.

Definitely wouldn’t say no to these sandals.

Lately, I’ve been noticing how much Glow loves to draw. She always has a little sketchbook and pencil on hand.

True has expressed an interest in scrap booking. I’m totally not a scrap booker, but it seems I have a daughter who is. Any tips to get her started?

Enjoy your weekend! We’re going through a heatwave and I’m not really liking it one bit.

This week’s learned, links, and thankfulness…

I love seafood, and crab is my favorite, so I need this crab bomb in my life.

We are doing some renovations upstairs soon and I’m looking for an wardrobe to hold blankets and towels. I’d to find an antique piece and paint it like this.

I pinned this round basket, and then I found this cool one on etsy. Someone please snatch it up as your summer bag (this one is cool too!).

All sorts of yes to peanut butter ice cream sandwiches.

These are nice simple espadrilles.

We have one week left of school and we are so excited about that, but that also means True and Brave leave soon to spend their summer in Texas. We will miss them so much!

I enrolled Glow for kindergarten this week. Eek! My baby is officially starting school! #waytoofast

If you follow me on instagram, you know we’ve been gone on a long road trip. We had such a good time and we saw and did so much, so I don’t even know where to start on sharing all of it. I have plenty of road trips tips to share too.

I’m going to attempt to paint all the upstairs bedrooms in the next few weeks, wish me luck!

If you’re stateside, enjoy the long weekend friends.

This week’s learned, links, and thankfulness…

Thankful for an adventure out with my girls to get ice cream. We celebrated the end of testing. Woot! The end of the school year is near.

Dana’s Bakery sent over these sassy and delicious macarons. Their flavor of the month is churro… I need me some churro macarons! They came shipped from NYC and they were still fresh and kept well in the fridge. With graduation time upon us, I think this inspiration box would definitely make a great gift.

Getting ready for some home renovations soon. We are finally getting rid of our carpet. Yippee!

I did a little interview with Shop Miguez and you can learn a little bit more about me and my inspirations. Read the interview here.

These espadrilles are so cute and only $26!

Such a pretty woven bag.

Okay, I’ve been hearing a lot about this Rodan & Fields skincare thing. 1) The price kind of keeps me away 2) I am curious. Would love to hear honest pros and cons and if really did anything for you.

I made pho this week and this recipe is so good every time.

I’m thankful for reminders to savor the moment with the girls.

The Baby Cubby is offering Cakies readers 10% off with the code MYCAKIES. The pretty ballet dress from this post is from there.

It’s been an insane week, but I am looking forward to lots of rest this weekend. I’m thankful for work and busyness, but I am also thankful for rest.

Hope you get lots of rest this weekend too!

This week’s learned, links, and thankfulness…

I’ve had this nasty cold/cough for a few weeks now and haven’t been feeling much like myself. I’ve been sleeping in (my body has been needing it), but I miss my 5am wake up and quiet time (my soul sorely misses it).

Oh … Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel reuniting to sing “For Good” is really sooooooo good. Puts me in the mood to put on my Wicked musical soundtrack.

Well, hello there peanut butter cheesecake!

I’m thinking of baking myself oatmeal pecan pie for Mother’s Day. I’m kind of craving it.

We are all doing a happy dance that standardized testing is done. Woot! Woot!

I love the new stripe tees and shoes on Everlane.

Such a cool vintage wall hanging!

All sorts of yes and amen and seeing my need for Jesus in this article, “Parenting is First About My Sin.”

It’s playoff season in the NBA and we are enjoying cheering our Spurs on. #gospursgo

Any Colorado, Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming friends here? We will be driving through on our road trip and would love any suggestions for things we must stop and see.

Hope you have a chill weekend friends!

This week’s learned, links, and thankfulness…

We had fun in Vegas for True’s birthday, but we learned we really aren’t Vegas people. Even still, we did have lots of fun together.

I would love this peanut butter cake for my birthday. Well, any day really.

I can’t believe I have a ten year old. True is such a blessing to our family and I can’t wait to see how she continues to blossom.

This white dress looks perfect for summer, and would look great paired with these colorful pompom sandals.

We have a road trip to the Four Corners and Mt. Rushmore coming up. We still haven’t decided if we will go to Yellowstone (through Montana) or head to Chicago. Anyone do those stops before? Would love to hear any other suggested stops along those routes! Or a list of must see things in Chicago that might help us decide which direction to take.

I’m excited that Ben and I get to go on a date this weekend. We are perfectly content with our Friday date nights at home, but it’s nice to be able to go out and do something different too. I think the last time we went on a date sans kids was our anniversary last year.

Thankful for getting out for a girls night out this past week. It was refreshing, even though I did get home close to 11pm. #momsgonewild

If we had a giant tree in our backyard, I would for sure get the girls a swurfer swing. It looks like so much fun!

This article “Prayer for Beginners” was what my heart needed. I’ve been struggling with praying lately.

Enjoy the last weekend of May friends!

pruning tomatoes when planting

April 27, 2016

In my recent tomato post, some of you noticed we pruned a lot off the tomato plant to look like a palm tree, then planted it deep. Why? The buried trunk will then turn into a larger, more established root system, thereby enabling the plant to be healthier. Trimming it this way also includes removing the tomato blossoms and any fruit that’s started to form. We want the plant to direct its energy toward developing a healthier root system now to allow for a greater abundance of fruit later vs. just a few measly fruit now. Hope this answers some of the questions some of you had regarding the way we plant our tomatoes.
