They come home from school with loads of stories of what they did together. They eat lunch together and they play together, but they are in different classes. They are both full of so much enthusiasm about their days (they go once a week and and the other days is homeschool) at school. These two sisters (and the little two sisters) totally warm my heart. They are all so good together.

Where most people are already starting to see and feel the beginnings of Fall, Summer is alive and well in Southern California. Straw hats and sunnies are still used around here and will probably be for awhile as Fall doesn’t really give way until November. Oye! I do see the shorter days, but man oh man, it’s still as hot as ever. Things are brown from the heat, not from the Autumnal change.
The Sunglasses Shop sent over these sunglasses and I love them. They are such good quality and really, I am typically a never-spend-more-than-$10-on-sunglasses person, but I do now understand that a bit higher in price definitely yields quality. Not in every case, but in this case… yes. I can now totally tell the difference between a $10 and a really nice pair. I am so careful with these (and these handmade ones) and makes sure that they are always in its case when not in use. I plan on these lasting me a very long time.
This dress is a new fave. It’s linen and comfy, but my favorite part is that it is really simple. Ben has been going through his many boxes of vintage clothes and came across this one that I must have stashed ages ago. I immediately ironed it and put it on and have worn it pretty much 4 out of the past 7 days. I see this getting many more uses into the Fall and Winter with some boots and instead of a denim vest, a chambray shirt or denim jacket!
This week Soul has been a big week for Soul. She has actually been going pee and poo, well most times, in the potty. She still isn’t too great at telling us she has to go, but we just sit her on and she goes. We’ve been wanting to potty train her for awhile, but she would say no and then we would move on and try another time. We would even bribe her with tons of things… my little pony, minnie mouse, balloons, but never food and she would still resist. What is finally working? She wants to sleep with True and Brave in the big girls’ room. She knows if she wants to sleep with them at night, she has to go potty and so far it’s been working. Plus prayer. She was being mostly difficult, then Ben and I prayed for it one night and since then, it has been much smoother. God said yes to this one.
So with that going potty business, she has also been sleeping with True and Brave in their rooms. Out of the three, she is the feistier one, despite how sweet her face is, so when we put them all down for the night, there never fails to be a few quarrels in the room (mostly started by Soul), but for the most part, they all go down and out as smooth as it can be with three girls in one room.
We love our Soulie… all sweet and feisty parts of her!
I wanted to take pictures of Brave in her cute little romper (it’s one of my fave outfits on her and i would totally wear it) gifted to her from Penelope (3 Ring Circus) for her birthday, but when I was taking pictures of her, she said, “Mommy, I want to be a bunny!” So a bunny it was! I think she wanted to be a bunny like her big sister True once was. Aye! These girls are too silly. She even got specific and told me to draw a carrot in her mouth. Love my sillies!!!

Today was their first day of school together… Brave was a ball of excitement and True was a ball of nerves. True is officially a first grader and Brave is a kindergartener. Last year, was an emotional drop off since it was our first time doing this, but this year was a bit calmer. No tears were shed. I think it has to do with the fact, though Brave wasn’t officially “in” school last year, she was right there learning everything that True was learning, so I kind of feel like she’s done this already.
I know. You’re wondering, “Wait. I thought you homeschooled?” I am sure I confuse you all the time. Yes, we homeschool, but they go to a local charter school once a week for enrichment classes with other homeschool kids. It is such a great program and I am thankful for our charter school system that provides this opportunity.
Bit of a conversation I had with Brave tonight… Me: So Brave, what did you and True do when you saw each other at lunch time? Brave: She showed me around and we talked. Me: What did you talk about? Brave: Where everything is. Me: So, True showed you the ropes? Brave: What ropes?
These girls make so many good memories together and are the bestest of friends that I am so happy that we had them back to back. It’s a lot of insane now with all of them, but so worth it.

The older three girls will be off vacationing with my parents for the week and it’s just going to be me and Glow during the day. This will be a weird change, but there are a few things I need to work on, so this break is quite welcomed. We no doubt will be missing the girls like crazy though!
Fingers crossed my parents stick to our rules as much as possible, make good food choices for our girls, and refrain from giving the girls whatever they want. Sometimes after a visit with my parents, I wish my girls had a reset button. Oye! I know we’re totally going to be in for it when they get back. Here’s to a quiet and productive week though!

I have a large growing pile of fabric scraps. I refuse to throw them away because I am sure they can be used for something. I have been seeing different types of interesting necklaces made of buttons, beads, and fabric. Then, I figured why not make one out of my scraps...
I think it made my white shirt a little less boring. This was so quick and easy to make.
How to make a recycled scraps necklace (which is very similar to the straps on my braided tablecloth bag):
1. Take your scrap fabric, I cut a .5''-1'' snip and tear the rest of the fabric down for a nice frayed edge. Used 3 different fabrics for each strand.
2. Take 3 of the torn pieces and tie the ends together with a rubber band.
3. Braid the 3 pieces together and tie ends together with rubber band when done.
4. Repeat steps 2 & 3 for more strands. Remember you can make the strands any length you want, if run out of fabric, just weave more into the braid.
5. Once all the strands you want are braided, gather one end of each strand together and straight stitch together with sewing machine. Repeat for the other ends of the strands. Snip off any excess.
6. Gather ends of the necklace and sew together (snip excess) or a ribbon can be sewn at the ends to be able to tie the necklace closed, but I just sewed both ends together.
7. Voila! A nice way to make use of all your lovely scraps.
Sorry if the directions get you a little lost, but it really is easy. I promise. Maybe I should put some in the shop. Please share any other good ideas you may have of things that can be made with scraps. I would love to hear (read) them!
