HUZZAH!

April 14, 2018

This week’s learned, links, and thankfulness…

Thankful to have taught my first Pinners Conference. I’m going to make a couple tweaks to panel pattern, but I’m already excited for Minneapolis in June. If you want to get tickets here, use code CAKIES and get 10% off. I’ll be doing a wall hanging class on Friday and a plant hanging class on Saturday; I will cover mostly different knots for both. Pinners classes are quite large class sizes, so if you want more one on one instruction in a smaller, intimate setting, I’ll be teaching a pop-up workshop at Kinoko Kids (Saturday evening 6/23). Stay tuned for details about that.

WOVENFOLK had a home goods update.

Always so appreciative of all the groceries and leftovers my parents send home with us when we visit. Gifts from God!

Ben and I have been sneaking in afternoon dates on Monday afternoons while the girls are at theater. I love that time we have!

This vintage jumpsuit is so darling and perfect for warm days.

Size 8 shoe ladies, this vintage wooden pair is perfection.

My sewing machine broke… wahhhh! But it’s had a very full life with a book written on it and countless many projects. Looking for a new one, anyone have a suggestion?

My project of the moment is prepping for a certain girl to turn 12 in 2 weeks. ACK… I’ll have a 12 year old!

I feel the school year winding down, I’m busy prepping for workshops, Wovenfolk, keeping with the mom and wife gig, and other life trials we’re praying about. Life is busy (it is for everyone, isn’t it?!), but good. We have lots of answered prayers and some still left unanswered, but we’re gonna keep holding on and trusting God. How was your week?

5 MINUTE HAIR CLIPS

April 12, 2018

5 Minute Hair Clips

Supplies:
Alligator hair clips
Embroidered patches
Glue gun and glue stick

Directions:
Glue an embroidered patch onto a clip… VOILA!

When it’s a house full of girls, we often find we’re having a hair clip shortage. We’ve made plenty, but when you need them, they’re nowhere to be found. In a pinch, and wanting a little funk, we took some embroidered patches we’d been hoarding and turned them in to clips. It probably takes less than 5 minutes to make, but you do have to wait to warm up the glue gun. Thus, 5 minute hair clips!

Some zodiac ones would be quirky or go for flowers for sweet! This lot of cool patches scream summer. I’m thinking of ordering that bunch to make more hair clips and to patch up their clothes.

GUEST ROOM

April 11, 2018

It’s been a couple weeks since our last guest left (she was with us for 6 weeks) and I finally got around to fixing up the guest room. I washed all the sheets, cleaned the bathroom, swept and wiped the floors, and now the room feels fresh again. I moved things around and added a rug to change things up a little. I’m not sure I like the rug there, but I’m feeling it out. For now, the room is clean and ready to welcome whoever God sends our way next.

I’m horrible at linking up sources for furniture because most everything in our home is vintage. The shelves, bed sheets, curtain, and curtain rod are from IKEA and the rug is from Uncommon Goods, but everything else is vintage!

PINNERS CONFERENCE SAN DIEGO

April 7, 2018

Hey SoCal Friends! If you’re free next Friday and Saturday head over to Pinners Conference in San Diego. I will be there Friday teaching a Beginning Macrame class and we’ll each be making a wall hanging! Get your tickets here and use the code CAKIES to get 10% off! Hope to see some of you there and be sure to say hi!

I went to Pinners Conference in Dallas last September and had so much fun as a student. It’s like Disneyland for makers. This time around, I’m excited to get to be a teacher!

If you’re in Minneapolis, I’ll be there in June to teach more macrame classes at Pinners Conference. I’ll be doing two different macrame workshops. Get tickets for MN here and use code CAKIES to get 10% off tickets there too.

EVERLANE DOES IT AGAIN

April 6, 2018

I’m always tooting Everlane’s horn, but they’ve done it again with their new Editor Slingbacks. They are so classic and chic; I love the pretty colors they come in. Everlane sells out real fast, so if you’ve been looking for a pair of cute flats, don’t wait. I remember when the first stock of Day Heels came out, they sold out real fast and I had to wait a few months until the restock. Even though, I’m not ordering a pair of these (I prefer shoes with a bit of a heel), I wanted to share them because some of you flat shoe loving friends might love them. It’s Friday and it’s always nice to celebrate the weekend with a little treat for yourself!

UNRAVEL CO

April 5, 2018

You all know I’m a basket lover with a soft spot for vintage and handmade, so I wanted to share this brand I love… Unravel Co. Unravel Co based out of Austin, Texas, is a basket shop that features handmade baskets made by artists in Ghana (read more about the collaboration here). Started in June 2017 by Sanetra Nere Longno. Her vision is to have a business that helps others, meanwhile developing fruitful relationships through design and collaboration. With that, Sanetra has a fundraiser to help build huts in the Ghanaian community in Sherigu. The vision is to build a learning community center. All visitors needs will be met with a place to rest, a stand alone full kitchen, water for everyday use and a center to learn about weaving and the culture. All things we take for granted here in the US. This enables the community to have a better cooking environment for the women to feed children and students. It also provides a finished weaving center for the talented makers.

They need to raise $1585 to complete the huts, and they’re about a third of the way there. To learn more about the fundraiser or to donate, you can get more info here.

And though WOVENFOLK is a basket shop too, I’m proud to share another basket shop with you. I love supporting other women run businesses, especially those who share my love for all things woven and those with a heart to use their business to help others.
