huzzah!

June 4, 2016

This week’s learned, links, and thankfulness…

Thankful we have two official school days left!

I started my painting adventures (I’m trying to do all of upstairs) and I’m about halfway done (follow me on instagram if you want to peek on my progress). I will be ecstatic when I’m done. Then, the new floors can go in. Woot! Woot!

If you’re in SoCal, or have plans to visit, be sure to check out the Long Beach Aquarium. For Cakies readers, you can get $10 off membership here.

We’ve been playing around with bed placement in True and Brave’s room. I like it like this (picture above), but Ben missed the openness of each bed in the corner. We are testing different ways out until one feels just right.

I want to try this recipe since we have finger limes growing in our garden.

Well, hello frozen s’mores!

I wouldn’t mind a few of these handira pillows on my bed.

Definitely wouldn’t say no to these sandals.

Lately, I’ve been noticing how much Glow loves to draw. She always has a little sketchbook and pencil on hand.

True has expressed an interest in scrap booking. I’m totally not a scrap booker, but it seems I have a daughter who is. Any tips to get her started?

Enjoy your weekend! We’re going through a heatwave and I’m not really liking it one bit.

Hi there! So we also homeschool (yay) and one of the things we are going to start is journaling- Kids will write, draw, add pictures. We are going to use a notebook and when they want to add pictures etc Im just going to have them use washi tape or something of that sort. That might be an easy way to introduce scrapbooking.

I USED to love to scrapbook… but like many other craft hobbies, the amount of things you can do and selection of materials gets easily overwhelming (and ridiculously expensive) and I kind of gave up. I think a great way to start is just having a blank book – like a journal, maybe a bigger-sized one – and let True paste whatever she wants in it. It could be photos, pictures from magazines, stickers, etc. You could get her stickers and embellishments specifically for scrapbooking, but it really adds up!

I know! I have so much craft crap. I need to get rid of it. It can get overwhelming for sure. I think the pasting idea is simple enough, and that’s what they do already, so many adding some stickers and stamps would help.

I think it depends on what kind of scrap booking True wants to do! Getting a nice sized book is key, I would suggest maybe giving themes to each double page spread for her to work from (nature, light, fun, food etc.) and giving her old magazines to cut up, which might lead to more of a collage feel.

Check out the All About Me Project Life pages on beckyhiggins.com. It’s a cute, simple way of scrapbooking. I use that system myself, and I gave that specific kit to my nieces when they were 9 and 10 along with some pictures. They loved it and want more. That kit is geared towards Tweens and teens. It’s really cool. The pages are 6×8 so it’s not overwhelming, and you don’t have to buy a lot of stickers and such.
