Thankful I was able to get one whole month of lesson planning done, so we’re totally ready to start (home) school again on Tuesday!
The girls had so much fun with their first sleepover (at our house) this past week!
This weekend flew by since I was mostly busy with prepping for the Babiekins baby shower. It was a good evening of friends, desserts, and lots of crafting! What was your weekend filled with?
This was the dress I made for Brave’s birthday this year (post coming next week). She loves Spider-Man! When I asked her what kind of present she wanted for her birthday this year, she said, “Anything Spider-Man.” She also requested a pajama party at a hotel and to swim all day long.
I’m always such a last minute birthday dress maker, and for this one I used an old striped pillowcase of ours. I cut it up to get the pieces I wanted, sewed them together, and out came a cute little dress. Okay, there were a few more steps involved, but it really was a simple style to do. I was going to add 2 red buttons along the waist, but then I saw this top on pinterest, and knew that would be perfect. We did our own play on it with red dots and a spider! I called True over, and she was the one who added these finishing touches. This was totally fit for our little Spider-Girl!
Hooray, hooray!
Today is our day.
We’re off to the park!
We must be back home before dark!
We have denim to wear.
We have sneakers on our feet.
Ready to play, we can’t be beat!
We’re out together, we know what to do.
“Hurry, hurry, there goes True!”
On the swings,

I used to make random poems for random things, especially gifts, and my best friend would call me Toula Seuss. Toula because I had hair like the girl in My Big Fat Greek Wedding (and glasses), and Seuss because of the obvious. I thought a little poem of our visit to the park and art show would be a little fun and different, so I went with it and this one was inspired by Dr. Seuss’s Oh, the Places You’ll Go!. Marimekko invited me over to tour their new store in Los Angeles and I was ooh-gling and aah-gling over all the pretty patterns and colors. I’ve been a fan of their fabrics for years, so I was super excited to know they had a store here in SoCal! The had bolts and bolts of gorgeous fabric. It was like fabric heaven for the sewing nerd in me. If you aren’t a sewer, they also have a seamstress on hand, so that they could make you whatever it is you wanted! They told me that someone wanted their headboard covered in the fabric, so they took it to them, and Marimekko got it done. I think that’s a nice option to have for those who want something personalized, but might not have the time or know how to do it.
I was also loving their little children section, their striped dresses, and that collaboration they did with Converse. I was practicing a lot of restraint to not walk out the store with at least something! Oh, I was so tempted. Thankfully, they sent me home with their beautiful book and a Marimekko tote, so I’m a pretty happy camper. If you’re in the L.A. area, you should definitely stop by Marimekko!
My best friend came over and distressed a pair of my denim cut-offs. I liked what she did to hers, so she came over and did them to mine. My summer uniform has been all about my denim cut-offs and one pair was feeling kinda boring and needed a little bit more personality. I like it much better now!
Supplies needed: denim shorts, cheese grater, scissors, and tweezers
Directions:
Using the cheese grater, grate the zipper and pocket areas to rough them up a little. Cut slits in your desired spots (I didn’t want to show any skin, so I had her do them where the pockets would cover my legs). Also, you don’t want it to look too planned, so don’t do symmetrical cuts. Then, using your tweezers, pull out the blue fibers (also called warp threads) that go lengthwise on the denim. Remove the warp threads the entire length from your cut slit. This way you’re only left with the white weft threads showing. Once your done, throw it in the wash and dryer, and voila!
I find all my denim shorts at the thrift store. I prefer it that way since I get to decide how short I want to make them. All the ones at the store these days are way too booty short for me (anyone else agree?). I wore this distressed pair here on my date night with Ben. Do you have a good method in distressing your denim?
I needed a little break from this space. I went to a homeschool conference, spend lots of time researching curriculum options, saw my childhood best friend and his wife’s new little baby enter this world, and was just sharing life and food with various people in our church family. I love hearing other people’s life stories over a good meal. We have one week of summer left before we get back into the swing of homeschooling next week (yikes!) and this week the girls are having some friends over for a sleepover so it will be me against 6 kids. This should be interesting. I don’t want summer to end, but I am excited for our homeschooling this year.

Thankful for the movie/cuddle time we had with the girls last night.
My sister’s boyfriend, Andrew Ho, killed it at his art show. He is so legit and so many other totally legit artists were taking notice. He also received tons of inquiries on his pieces. I can’t wait to see how Andrew continues to grow!
This post (from my sister) was an encouragement to me.
So thankful that Ben and I are done paying off our school loans (we got aggressive about it this year) and we are officially debt free. Yay! Well, we still have our house to pay-off, but that is good debt to have.
Excited about the Babiekins baby shower the whole Babiekins team is putting together this coming weekend!
I have a large growing pile of fabric scraps. I refuse to throw them away because I am sure they can be used for something. I have been seeing different types of interesting necklaces made of buttons, beads, and fabric. Then, I figured why not make one out of my scraps...
I think it made my white shirt a little less boring. This was so quick and easy to make.
How to make a recycled scraps necklace (which is very similar to the straps on my braided tablecloth bag):
1. Take your scrap fabric, I cut a .5''-1'' snip and tear the rest of the fabric down for a nice frayed edge. Used 3 different fabrics for each strand.
2. Take 3 of the torn pieces and tie the ends together with a rubber band.
3. Braid the 3 pieces together and tie ends together with rubber band when done.
4. Repeat steps 2 & 3 for more strands. Remember you can make the strands any length you want, if run out of fabric, just weave more into the braid.
5. Once all the strands you want are braided, gather one end of each strand together and straight stitch together with sewing machine. Repeat for the other ends of the strands. Snip off any excess.
6. Gather ends of the necklace and sew together (snip excess) or a ribbon can be sewn at the ends to be able to tie the necklace closed, but I just sewed both ends together.
7. Voila! A nice way to make use of all your lovely scraps.
Sorry if the directions get you a little lost, but it really is easy. I promise. Maybe I should put some in the shop. Please share any other good ideas you may have of things that can be made with scraps. I would love to hear (read) them!
