This week’s learned, links, and thankfulness…

The Saxon Math program has been a hit with True and Brave, but I think it’s a little easy for them. I’m thinking about adding in Math-U-See into the mix. Anyone have any experience with that program? Math is the subject I struggle with most (patience-wise), so I like the idea of a video teaching them.

Thankful for staying on task this week; we got a lot of school and even ahead of the game for next week.

Loving my kidless Fridays! The girls all go to school on Fridays now, so it gives me time to get things done. Unfortunately, I had to spend most of my first Friday cleaning their rooms (and getting rid of junk while they aren’t there), but hopefully I’ll get more of my own work done next time.

We had such a fun time doing an outdoor movie night with our neighbors. We had popcorn, nacho bar (think fancy nachos topped with chorizo… yum!), hot dogs, candy and chips galore. It’s funny to think we lived next to our neighbors for 9 years and all we ever did was wave from our driveway. It’s been a blessing this past year to step out of comfort zone (houses) and spend time getting to know the people we live next to. You can’t love thy neighbor, if you don’t know thy neighbor.

I’ve been thinking a lot about this space and how blogging has changed so much since I started. I have mixed feelings about it, so much I still love, but so much I’m “eh” about. I ought to sort out my feelings in a post. For those of you who still check here often, I’m thankful for you (and thankful for those who’ve invested time in the past too).

If you’re a denim dress lover like me, pick up one in the WOVENFOLK etsy shop and cause use the code CAKIES for 10% off denim currently in the shop.

This vintage silk blouse is awesome. Someone get it.

Glow turns 6 this week and she requested a “shape birthday” celebration, so I ordered this book for her.

We’re in Halloween prep mode. The girls have costume requests and I have lots to do. Oye!

To those affected by Irma (or in Irma’s path), Harvey, the Mexico earthquake… we are praying for you. So much heartache and devastation recently, and while it’s easy to forget while living in this busy bubble of raising small children (and the disasters not personally seen), the hurt and devastation is real out there. We are all but mere dots on this earth and life really is such a vapor, but we can’t live our lives ignorant of others and the pain they feel (racism included). It’s especially easy to ignore the issues of the world (and our own country) in the plush comfort of capitalism USA. I too fall in this trap and become insensitive to the needs of others. Let’s all start with the simple act coming out of the comfort of our own homes and getting to know our neighbors. Hear their stories, get to know their backgrounds (learn from each other), and be active in serving one another.

Thanks for checking in here, friends!

p.s. these are the blocks pictured above.

This week’s learned, links, and thankfulness…

One week of school done! Woot!

Basket shop updated (this is my fave), as well as my etsy with lots of vintage clothes (and there’s a sale going on there). Are you following WOVENFOLK on instagram? Do so here!

Obsessed with making bimbimbap lately. I use this recipe, but leave out the meat and use this recipe for tofu.

We love the new Taylor Swift song and we’re rooting for her. I always tell the girls that no one ever makes us do something, so we dissect the song and discuss her message, so while I don’t agree with it, it is catchy and clever. It’s fun watching the video and trying to discover her hidden meanings. That Swift knows exactly what to do to generate buzz and cash.

Um, heatwave… please leave. This no AC home is kind of hot and we’re sweating all the time. lol We have AC, but we don’t run it for energy and money saving reasons, but saving is the biggie.

I’m trying this probiotic moisturizer for my eczema. My friend is making me a roller with natural oils. I’m not an oil person, but I’d like to be a believer.

Aside from egg and cheese, we rarely eat meat. We mostly do tofu and beans, so I was so excited when I went out with friends this week and had a burger!

We are so sad about the devastation that Hurricane Harvey has left. I’ve been encouraged by my daughters’ request of praying for those affected during our family prayer time. My in-laws were bracing for the storm in San Antonio, but it moved north instead, and SA didn’t get much. We’re praying for all of you affected.

Stay cool friends!

This week’s learned, links, and thankfulness…

Thankful for to-do lists that help me stay on track. I don’t function too well without them.

One more week of summer vacation left. Gotta make sure all our school stuff is ready. Eek!

Tried out this no artificial dye food coloring. It’s pretty good and affordable.

Ben and I are so thankful and blessed to have my parents nearby. They took the girls out for a day off fun and shopping. It’s special to see my girls so close to my parents (and his mom too).

Got a pair of vintage military pants from Rawson Chicago. They are my exact inseam, so couldn’t turn it down. I’m so short that I almost always have to alter something.

Loaded some vintage denim dresses on to the WOVENFOLK etsy shop.

Made 3 batches of macarons this week. They are such tough cookies to get right. Batch 1 tasted good, but came out too dense. Batch 2 and 3 taste good too, and was closer to what the shells are supposed to be, but they stuck to the mat. Will keep trying until I get it right. My goal is to make macaron ice cream sandwiches!

If you’ve been wanting Everlane wide leg crop pants, they’ve been restocked in some pretty colors. The day heel is back in stock too!

Made a lightened up version of this pizza twice this week. I didn’t like it too much the first time, but did the second.

I love discovering new vintage shops to follow and Pieceology Vintage is one you will definitely like too!

Tomorrow is the flea market. I hope we find some treasures! Enjoy the rest of your weekend, friends!

This week’s learned, links, and thankfulness…

Tried out this recipe and it’s perfect for summer nights. Of course, served alongside a glass of wine.

Thankful for our Thursday night neighborhood dinners. It’s such a blessing to get to know our neighbors.

Love the Depop app. You can find vintage and modern clothes that people resell. Got a great deal on a pair of vintage, high waisted wide legs!

More bolga hats in stock over at WOVENFOLK.

Um… I want coconut matcha ice cream!

Praise God my mom is okay after her blood pressure went over 200! Life is such a vapor and things like that remind us how fragile life really is, even though sometimes we forget and tend to live only for the here and now.

Oh man! God’s been giving us life and marriage trials. Broken computers, almost broken garage door, and other things like that are stressors that have been testing my faith and hope. Tbh, I’m not really passing these trials well nor counting them joy.

These pink block heel pumps are adorable, and these faux fur mules are super funky.

My eczema has been acting up since the winter and won’t go away. Anyone have any natural remedies to suggest?

I love this peanut butter powder. I put 1 tablespoon in my daily morning protein drink.

Flax linen lovers… get this vintage, linen top from Ms. Tips. This jacket is also perfect for fall.

The girls plan on selling some treats at our cul-de-sac garage sale today, and tomorrow we celebrate my mom’s birthday! Hope your weekend is just as fun and full!

This week’s learned, links, and thankfulness…

Our Brave is 10! What a whirlwind few days as we had originally planned to head to SF to celebrate, but plans changed, so in 24 hours Ben and I put together a Harry Potter full day adventure. It was quite the production, but her constant smile made it well worth it. So I dropped off the blogging planet after Wednesday due to that.

Since we were supposed to go out of town, Ben has a week off! YAY!

Cute Ferragamo slingbacks for a 6.5 foot!

We don’t use the AC at all (we made an exception for Brave’s bday) and oh man we are sweating all the time. lol But we are saving money and energy! 🙂

I want to make a pretty cake like this.

Ben and I had a huge fight last weekend and it wasn’t until Friday that I could feel my heart softening towards him (I didn’t want to let my selfishness win and praying I see Christ as better than all). Marriage is great, but it ain’t easy.

Love my Everlane day heels and wide leg pant. See it here.

Got this blush and loving it so far.

I see all this hubaloo about Glossier, can someone who’s not trying to sell it, but uses it, tell me what’s so fabulous about it (besides the pink bubble zip bag)? I want to place an order just for that bag.

If you need a wedding planner, I highly recommend Ah, Love Events.

Found this amazing antique Edwardian blouse when I was out sourcing this morning. It’s so pretty! Rawson has many similar and lovely styles if antique blouses make your heart pitter patter too.

Stay cool friends!

This week’s learned, links, and thankfulness…

Thankful the girls don’t need technology to be entertained. They spend most of their days reading and playing together. Maybe about an hour before Ben comes home, I’ll let them watch something on the ipad.

It was a blessing for Ben and I to be able to carve out “alone time” for Brave. We’ve been trying to give each girl their own special mommy and papi time each week.

Super thankful and blessed to be able to hang out with lots of friends this week, but I am feeling a bit peopled out. This introvert needs some time to recharge.

Have you seen the most recent Wovenfolk shop update? This one is a fave.

I would love to embroider a shirt like this, but I don’t think I have the patience.

Made this enchilada casserole, but substituted the ground meat with black beans, and I made my own enchilada sauce. We all loved it! The egg whites are a good tortilla substitute.

In love with these Rachel Comey earrings.

Anyone try this blush? I’m almost all out, so while I love the powdery version of this, I’ve never done blush this way.

Would happily cover my legs with this button up skirt via Shop Aro.

We’ve got another birthday coming up this week… Brave is gonna be 10!
