Bunny Mask
make with the bunny ears headband

Supplies:
3 pipe cleaner stems
Pom pom (or cottonball)
Popsicle stick
Craft glue

Directions:
Center the pipe cleaner stems at the top of the wooden stick. Next, wrap the 3 stems around the top of the stick. Glue the pom pom on top of the stick (over the stems). Arrange the whiskers and wear!

Isn’t it so easy to make?! Anybunny can make it!

This is a simple craft that lots of little hands can do with very little assistance. You probably already have everything you need to make this craft, so you better get hopping!

There’s a lot of pictures because this superbloom we’ve got going on, deserves a lot of pictures. We headed out to Walker Canyon in Lake Elsinore last week and the superbloom was still going strong over there. The girls brought baskets to collect rocks, sticks, and flowers, but once we saw the “don’t pick flowers” sign, well, they just stuck to collecting rocks and sticks. We went midday, so the sun was out in full force as we hiked a couple miles through the canyon. It’s a really easy hike and I saw some ladies hiking in strappy summery sandals, so you don’t have to come decked out in fancy hiking gear. In fact, we all wore spring dresses and some easy hiking shoes. The girls have their Keen footwear (this is the one they have) for when we do easy hiking (they’re great because you can easily throw them in the wash), and I wore some sneakers.

Glow pretty much skipped up the mountain, but skipping is typically her MO. As she was skipping, she yelled out, “I love skipping!” I love when she skips because you can see her joy and happiness in each little hop step. Something about skipping is so carefree. When do we lose the natural inclination to skip? I don’t skip anymore on my own (only when skipping with the girls). It would be an odd sight to see an adult skipping down the sidewalk, but I think there ought to be more of it. I think skipping is an overflow of the heart, and our adult hearts, at least mine is, is bogged down with so many unnecessary things. Glow is a little girl, who knows her mom and dad will take care of her and love her, and all she needs to do is trust them. Hence, she doesn’t have a care in the world and skipping is the overflow from the freedom she experiences. Thinking about it that way reminds me that I have a perfect Father who is in control, sent His Son to die in my place, so I can be free from bondage, and all I need to do is trust Him too. Skipping through life should also be my modus operandi too because of the freedom I have in Christ.

Back to superbloom hunting in Walker Canyon… we saw so many different types of wildflowers. There weren’t as many poppies, but there was still a wide variety here. There’s a sign at the bottom of the hill that list the different wildflowers you will find, so if you take a picture of it before you start your hike, you can refer back to the picture to identify them (if you aren’t already a wildflower expert) as you see them. It was almost like a scavenger hunt to the girls. The only one who wasn’t really into was Soul. The two older girls brought their cameras to document the adventure, so even though they couldn’t pick flowers, they have some superbloom hunting pictures to treasure. We just went a week ago, so I’m thinking there’s still a bunch of wildflowers there, but you better hurry up and visit before they fade away for the season.

Drawstring Pom Pom Bag
make to hold some easter goodies

Supplies:
2- 11 1/2″ x 18 1/2″ pieces of canvas fabric
2- 26″ strands of cotton cording
Yarn
Paint
Paintbrush
Scissors
Plastic sewing needle
Hand-sewing needle
Sewing machine
Pins, optional

Seam allowance: 1/2″

Directions:
1. Paint your design on the outer portion of the 11 1/2″ x 18 1/2″ fabric pieces. Allow to dry completely. 

2. To create the drawstring channel casing, fold both short sides of the canvas fabric down 1/4″, and then another  3/4″, and pin in place.  Sew along the the entire length. Repeat for second canvas fabric piece.

3. Make 7 small pom poms (see how to make pom poms here) and attach an 8″ strand of yarn to each, knot the ends of the string together. Space out 3 pom poms on each side of the bag, with the pom poms toward the center of the bag (and knotted ends off the edge of the bag). Fold fabric over width-wise, with the right sides together, so that the pom poms are sandwiched in the middle, line up the fabric edges and pin in place. Starting below the drawstring casing, sew along the sides of bag. Repeat for the second side, then turn bag right side out.

4. Hand-sew the remaining pom pom to the bottom, center of the bag.

5. Attach one end of the cotton cording through a plastic needle (or a large safety pin), and thread it through the drawstring casing on one side of the bag, and then back around the other side, so that you have both ends of the cotton rope on one side. Repeat with the other ribbon starting on the opposite side of the bag. Leave approximately 9″ of cording on each side, then tie the ends in a knot and cut off the excess.

I was inspired by this bag that was featured in J.Crew’s s/s 2017 fashion show. I don’t know if it’s an actual J.Crew bag since I don’t see it in their webshop, but I love the quirkiness of it, so I created my own version for kids. I think this would make a great alternative to Easter baskets stuffed with chocolates and some Easter eggs. It might not hold much for an Easter egg hunt, but it is definitely cute!

Thankful for marriage fights because they reveal sin and things we need to work on. We’re both always learning how to love and forgive.

Lasagna has been my new favorite thing to make, or maybe it’s that I really like eating lasagna. I never liked it in the past, but I use this recipe (with some of my own minor tweaks), and I love it.

I like the philosopher quoted at the end of this article entitled, “Dear Non-Christian Friend, Where Can We Find True Freedom?”

The girls don’t know it, but next week is spring break, and I’m really excited about it. I might move things around so our break will have a some days off next week, and some days off the week after. #ohthejoysofhomeschooling.
