pom pom straw hat

March 9, 2017

Pom Pom Straw Hat

Supplies:
Straw hat
Yarn
Scissors
Plastic needle

Directions:
1. Make 5 pom poms (or however many you desire). I show you how to make pom poms here.

2. Sew each pom pom onto the hat and knot to secure.

Now, go out and have some fun in the sun. Or in our case, grab the nearest palm tree and pretend you’re in the sun.

It’s really warming up over here and we have plans to get out and enjoy the sunshine this weekend, even if it’s in our own backyard. True is especially excited she will get to wear her pom pom hat out. There will be no need for sweaters, and all the sleeveless tops and dresses will be put to good use. Also, our feet will be getting plenty of sunshine since it’s sandal season too. I’m so excited to have the glorious California sun back because the cold was making me really lazy and wanting to stay in bed all day. I don’t know how the rest of you do it with those negative temperatures in the winter, I would never get anything done. Hope it’s warming up in your neck of the woods as well!

on true: stripe knit tank dress and crisscross leather sandals, c/o lands’ end. hat, thrifted.

denim duster

March 7, 2017

I did a happy dance when I came across this (made in USA) vintage, denim duster at the thrift store. It’s nice and lightweight, so it will be perfect for spring. The jacket was really long (and I’m really short), so I cut off a lot of length (still kept it long for me), and I used the excess fabric to make pockets. Now, my jacket has pockets! See what a little sewing know how can do?!

on me: top, everlane. levi’s 501s, vintage (similar here). denim duster, thrifted (vintage here, new there). clogs, c/o maguba. market basket, similar here. vintage bandana, stole it from Ben (vintage here, new there).

bougainvillea inspiration

March 6, 2017

In Southern California, you can see bougainvillea in abundance. Lots of people use it in their landscaping; it looks so gorgeous cascading over walls. Our neighbor has it arched over their front door, and every time I go over, I love to look up and see the contrast between the hot pink florals and the blue sky. We used to have a couple bougainvillea plants in our backyard, but we took them out to put more fruit trees (Ben doesn’t like them because they’re sharp). One of the plants got transplanted to the front yard, but we haven’t really taken care of it, so it hasn’t grown much. These images have me wanting to nurse it back to life in hopes that it will grow over our front brick wall and spill over into the back. If we weren’t into fruit trees, I think I would love a backyard brick wall completely lined with bougainvillea.

huzzah!

March 4, 2017

This week’s learned, links, and thankfulness…

Loving this grandma chic crochet top from Anthropologie.

I’m working on a project that I can’t wait to share with you all soon. Hint: it has to do with my basket obsession (and maybe a new shop). šŸ˜‰

Annie Costello Brown earrings are my fave and this one seems to be on sale right now.

Thankful for Ben’s leading to read the BibleĀ together every day, though I might have been hesitant at times (when he wants to read right before bed). We’re reading through Revelations together.

Super grateful that the girls can reach the top shelves of the kitchen now, so they can put away plates and bowls! Now, I only have to put away the glasses. This is very helpful.

How cool is this space pod playhouse?! Not badly priced too.

Besides my love for blue and denim, I’ve been drawn to a lot of cream and ivory lately like in this outfit.

Last week, I didn’t pick a bad habit to kick , but I’m still struggling with the turning to my Bible first rather than IG or Pinterest first thing in the morning. I think that’s what I’ll keep needing to work on for this next week.

My girls might love this sushi bake; I might try out my own version this week.

One of 3 plants I’m looking for until I declare my home plant collection complete.

We don’t redecorate often in our home. I stick to what I love and never really go with the home trends (never got on that chevron pattern thing), but I am itching to redecorate a little. I don’t want to change out any furniture (I love what we have!), but maybe move things around and change out some accent pieces. First, I have to tackle taxes and then the home rearranging can commence.

There are lots of markdowns in the Ms. Tips vintage shop this weekend! Someone snag this silk jacket please.

Have a glorious weekend friends!

wool & flora crown

March 2, 2017

Wool & Flora Crown

Supplies:
Bunch of faux flowers
Raffia covered wire
Wire cutter
Scissors
Twine (ribbon)
Yarn

Directions:
1. Measure the wire around the head, add a couple inches to each end (so they can overlap when connected), and cut wire. Cut out short stems of the flowers, bunch them together, and tie onto desired spot on the wire using a 8″ strand of twine/ribbon. Continue to add flowers onto the wire until desired fullness. Tie the twine/ribbon throughout to secure onto the wire. Overlap the wire ends together to desired size, and twist around each end to secure.

2. Cut out long strands of yarn and Lark’s head knot them onto the crown.

The girls and I went to Michaels the other day to pick up some thread and we perused through all the faux flowers because the aisle was so colorful and pretty. They picked out this bunch to bring home and requested a floral crown. With four girls, crown requests happen quite often. If you look back in my project archives, you will see we’ve made several. I like how easy this one is because instead of wrapping each stem with floral tape or wire, it was simply tied on with a piece of string. This makes it a project the (big) girls can do without me. The younger two need a little more supervision and guidance in determining how long to cut the stems and ribbon. March 20th… we are counting down until spring is officially here. I think we will be wearing our crowns to usher in the new season. Peruse past crown projects here.
