Lately, I’ve been looking for long, loose dresses at the thrift store to turn into jumpsuits. I snip the skirt down the middle, halfway up the length of the skirt, then I sew up each pant leg. Though it may not be as figure flattering, I love loose silhouettes because they’re so comfy, and I feel good in them. This one reminds me of the Rachel Comey Costello jumpsuit, but much more friendly to my wallet.
what i’m wearing: dress, thrifted and altered (similar here). clogs, maguba. basket, vintage (similar here).
Don’t forget to tune in here for Thrive Moms online conference (it’s free!) at 11am CST, but they will be streaming again on Monday, Nov. 7th from 7-10pm CST.
I’m not a party thrower, but this tablescape makes me want to throw one.
If you’re looking for some pretty jewelry for gifts, check out Lumafina. The shop is having a massive sale (it ends today!) and I ordered these earrings!
Thankful for a restful past few days just relaxing in bed, and being pampered by Ben and the girls.
Obsessed with seed bead stitching. Swooning over jewelry by Salihah Moore, then remembered I have a bag full of vintage seed beads from when Ben was a little kid (I knew it would come in handy one day!), so I started making my own pieces.
Ms. Tips is having a huge sale until Halloween! Wish it got cold enough here to warrant a reason to get this wool coat.
This week felt a little overwhelming with Ben getting sick, then Brave, and all other life things. Thankful got to read the Bible with a friend, and the Word really does give life to the weak. I needed a reminder to count it all joy.
Excited to share this year’s Halloween story with you all. The girls did all the planning for it and I think it’s pretty hilarious. Don’t forget to check back on Monday!
I need a good book for my birthday to ready while I’m in bed doing nothing. Any recommendations? I love suspense and thriller books.
Birthday week is coming up and I’m so excited. Not that I have any requests really, except to stay in bed all day and do nothing (all meals in bed too), but I simply love birthdays.
I’m not typically a romance movie gal, but I really liked the movie Brooklyn.
Can’t believe next week will be November. I’m excited for all the holiday things!
Glow’s reading short vowel words and Soul’s fluency is getting better… praise the Lord Jesus! Once those two are fluent readers, I’m buying myself a treat. Teaching my own kids how to read was one of the things that terrified me most about homeschooling.
I’ve been extremely tired this week. We’re still waking up at 5am, but after we workout, and I spend time reading and praying, I’m so sleepy. One morning, Ben and I even took a 40 minute nap!
Encouraged by how the girls chip in to help with things around the house. They know their responsibilities and do a fine job making sure things get done. I was definitely not as cheerful of a helper when I was a child.
I’m not usually a dramady type viewer, but I really like the show This is Us.
Walking Dead comes back this weekend! I’M. SO. EXCITED (and scared)!!! #ifdaryldiestheinternetriots #butpleasedontkilloffgleneither
Last night we hosted a pumpkin carving/decorating party with friends nearby. We all had a blast and the girls are already requesting we do it next year again.
I’m done with all 4 girls’ Halloween costumes! Yippee!
Tonight we have another Halloween party to attend and I will be taking over the Michaels stores Instagram (follow here) to share all about it. I will be also sharing about it on my account (@cakiesblog) as well!
Thankful for new and old friends. Friends are such a gift.
Happy we got to have our monthly dinner on the 14th with my family. My mom’s cooking is the best.
Excited we have Monday off from school. Not sure why, but since the calendar says no school, we are not going to do any school. It will give us time to finish up our Halloween costumes.
My ears would be happy with these dangling from it.
My friend made this easy paper bag pot. I love how it recycles and reuses something and then you have something pretty to put your plant in.
I agree with the article, “Parents, Let Your No Be No.” I also like how the article encourages parents to “let your loving yes be frequent.” Being a parent is such a balancing act of being firm, but also loving. There are many times I’ve failed because I was one without the other (usually firm, but not loving), but by God’s grace, I’ve been learning how to let love for my children, and for their good and God’s glory, dictate my parenting. I’m still not the perfect parent, but I’m glad that through my failures, I can point my children to the one perfect parent… God.
Thank you for dropping by to see what I’m ranting about this week. Happy weekending friends!
I took a nap this week. While I’m typically not a nap person, I was thankful for that bit of rest.
The girls are excited that basketball pre-season started. We love our Spurs! #gospursgo
Ben and I spent the day cleaning our front courtyard and backyard, so hopefully we can enjoy our outdoors spaces more. And I can’t wait until we have the front lawn figured out. It’s the big house project we are currently working on, and it’s taking time to lay everything out. We are putting a lot of drought tolerant fruit trees in, so between the backyard and front yard, I think we have about 80 fruit trees.
I have a large growing pile of fabric scraps. I refuse to throw them away because I am sure they can be used for something. I have been seeing different types of interesting necklaces made of buttons, beads, and fabric. Then, I figured why not make one out of my scraps...
I think it made my white shirt a little less boring. This was so quick and easy to make.
How to make a recycled scraps necklace (which is very similar to the straps on my braided tablecloth bag):
1. Take your scrap fabric, I cut a .5''-1'' snip and tear the rest of the fabric down for a nice frayed edge. Used 3 different fabrics for each strand.
2. Take 3 of the torn pieces and tie the ends together with a rubber band.
3. Braid the 3 pieces together and tie ends together with rubber band when done.
4. Repeat steps 2 & 3 for more strands. Remember you can make the strands any length you want, if run out of fabric, just weave more into the braid.
5. Once all the strands you want are braided, gather one end of each strand together and straight stitch together with sewing machine. Repeat for the other ends of the strands. Snip off any excess.
6. Gather ends of the necklace and sew together (snip excess) or a ribbon can be sewn at the ends to be able to tie the necklace closed, but I just sewed both ends together.
7. Voila! A nice way to make use of all your lovely scraps.
Sorry if the directions get you a little lost, but it really is easy. I promise. Maybe I should put some in the shop. Please share any other good ideas you may have of things that can be made with scraps. I would love to hear (read) them!
