Ben and I woke up Sunday morning feeling horrible. We’re both still feeling pretty cruddy, but we gotta trek on. Now when both parents are sick, well, not much else can be done but get some dvd’s, let the messes pile up, and throw some fast food in the mix for good measure. True and Brave had school today so that calmed things down a bit here and gave us both more quiet time. Despite still feeling a bit icky, Ben goes back to work tomorrow (NO!) and it’s back to finding that normal we had 4 weeks ago. It seems just like yesterday that his vacation started.
I am going to miss Ben terribly when he is at work and will be counting down until the minute he walks back in the door. Plus, I hope we all feel better tomorrow and kick the sickies to the curb! Be gone cold… we don’t like you!
This week has been bit tougher week for me and Ben. We have some personal things going on, which forces us to pray together and cling to Jesus more together because we are just so helpless. I think I often mentally psyched myself out to think I am strong and that I can handle things, but really I am not. I am quite controlling about my life, but life does happen and there are just some things you just can’t control. We are learning to let go and pray more.
We’ve got one week left of Ben’s vacation, but it isn’t really vacation because we have tons of things on our to-do list and it feels like not much is getting done. We are down to the wire of his paternity time (we just finished off two weeks) and he is now on his last week. We spread it out through the year and never take it all initially when our kids are born because there is always so much help those first few weeks from family visiting. The end of this week we will celebrate with Glow’s birthday. I can hardly believe that my baby, MY BABY!, turns one! ONE! We will celebrate by just hanging out and filling Glow’s day with what we think she might enjoy. She can’t tell us much yet, so we have to guess!
This week’s learned and links…
Soul is eager to join school like her older sisters and I am so amazed at how she really has been doing so well on the potty.
Glow can stand!
Ben’s taken charge of the kitchen and I haven’t made anything in two weeks! I am going to be sad when he goes back to work, with him home, we get gourmet meals all day long.
Still snacking on cookies from this party. Someone get them out of my house please!
I ordered this shirt from Anthro. Thank God for gift cards!
These doily lions are so cute. Must make them asap!
During lunch with our church family, my pastor read us this story and it was so funny it had me in tears! I can think of a few moments when I had that sharp pain! lol. Anyone relate? This is especially funny because when Ben and I fart (did I just type that? but to be clear, mine do smell like roses) or pick our boogies (did I just type that?!) in front of each other, we’ll say… “You didn’t do that while we were dating!” Oh, the joys of love and marriage!
Brave came home from enrichment classes last week with a little clay model of the Earth. She was so proud and loved telling me about the crust, mantle, and inner & outer core. She was proud to have the whole world in her hands.
This week’s learned and links…
Soul really has taken to using the potty. I am amazed!
The message yesterday at our church family gathering was a good reminder… don’t be a hoarder and don’t store your treasures on Earth. Sure! It’s alright to like things and get nice things, but watch where you heart is.
I can hardly believe it is already September. Anyone else feel they are racing with time? So much to do, but not enough time!
I’m doing the Friday dance today. Are you? We have officially started school and it looks like a library threw up all over my kitchen tables. The girls are excited and so am I. I’m feeling good about this year, albeit a little stressed, but I think the fact the girls are almost neck in neck as far as skills, make things much easier when teaching them despite the different grade levels. Plus, if I used to be able to handle a classroom of 30 fourth graders, two little girls in K and 1 is cake right?!
Today is for cleaning up our school space, so that the explosion stays away from the dining table and kitchen. We’ve also got a Misha Lulu shoot going on at our house tomorrow, so cleaning is necessary. I know some of you have asked about some of our homeschool curriculum and some of it is here in the FAQ section, though I do need to update it with our first grade materials. If you have any other questions besides curriculum ones, feel free to ask away here!
Soulie has been wanting to sleep in True and Brave’s room and it’s cute to see them all together. They will make such good memories together!
Bananas are Glow’s jam. She LOVES them. If you had her choose between me or a banana, I think I would lose.
Last week’s message at our gathering with our church family, totally cut my heart. I am thankful for the grace of God and grace and forgiveness of others.
My BFF has given me freedom to be in charge of decorating her house! I am so excited!!!! I get to spend someone else’s money buying pretty things. You should see her dining table that I picked out… it is amazing!!!
My friend Melody wows me every time. You must follow her blog because she just puts out amazing things like THIS every time. The THIS even gets put into all caps because it is THAT good!!!
Enjoy your weekend friends! Even though the heat is going to jump back up in the next week, I am enjoying this cooler weather and it is kinda giving me feelings of Autumn. So happy!!!
Wow. Friday already?!! It’s been such a different week without the girls here. Glow and I had quiet breakfasts and lunches together and we would do some dancing and playing. Also, I was able to get lots done and all laundry is washed and put away and no one is allowed to get anything dirty ever again. This is the second time in my life when this miracle has happened and the first time was just a month or so ago! See, miracles do still happen and can happen more than once! Lots of things got done over here, but we miss the girls like crazy. It’s weird having silence during the day. Very strange. The noise will be back soon enough as their vacation ends tomorrow!
This week’s learned and links…
I love silence. I rarely get it, but with the girls gone, I didn’t put any music on because I just liked hearing nothing. Though, I can’t wait to have those little voices back again soon.
Glow stood up for a couple seconds without holding onto anything. So cute!
Been following my baby sister on instagram so I can see my girls throughout the day!
Homeschool stuff is ready. We start next week. I am sure I confuse some of you, but they homeschool, but attend a local school once a week for enrichment classes with other homeschoolers.
Excited for the vintage sale tomorrow! I can’t wait to meet some of you!
Someone get this cute vintage gold clutch. Amazing!
I loved hearing about your various familial personalities! Some of you are game players, readers, community get to knowers, and fellow crafters. Everyone is so different and it’s cool to learn from one another.
Have a great weekend friends! It’s been crazy hot here, so I hope it cools off a bit.
I have a large growing pile of fabric scraps. I refuse to throw them away because I am sure they can be used for something. I have been seeing different types of interesting necklaces made of buttons, beads, and fabric. Then, I figured why not make one out of my scraps...
I think it made my white shirt a little less boring. This was so quick and easy to make.
How to make a recycled scraps necklace (which is very similar to the straps on my braided tablecloth bag):
1. Take your scrap fabric, I cut a .5''-1'' snip and tear the rest of the fabric down for a nice frayed edge. Used 3 different fabrics for each strand.
2. Take 3 of the torn pieces and tie the ends together with a rubber band.
3. Braid the 3 pieces together and tie ends together with rubber band when done.
4. Repeat steps 2 & 3 for more strands. Remember you can make the strands any length you want, if run out of fabric, just weave more into the braid.
5. Once all the strands you want are braided, gather one end of each strand together and straight stitch together with sewing machine. Repeat for the other ends of the strands. Snip off any excess.
6. Gather ends of the necklace and sew together (snip excess) or a ribbon can be sewn at the ends to be able to tie the necklace closed, but I just sewed both ends together.
7. Voila! A nice way to make use of all your lovely scraps.
Sorry if the directions get you a little lost, but it really is easy. I promise. Maybe I should put some in the shop. Please share any other good ideas you may have of things that can be made with scraps. I would love to hear (read) them!
